Ferland's track record has me thinking he's Matt Beleskey 2.0

By the age of 25 he had less than 50 career points but over 160 NHL games played. He couldn't stick on Calgary's top line, and has moved around Carolina, in the role he's being sold as his physical play would vanish and he'd go stretches doing fly-bys, stick waving, and thinking he was a dangler. He kinda gets lost out there sometimes, especially in his own end when he's not giving 100% effort.

And for all the "bang and crash" credit he gets, I'm not sure how many players we have to see with that reputation come to town, or any major market, and once he's under daily coverage people realize that he's not much unlike Sutter or Virtanen or Gudbranson, to pick some local examples, in that they bring it occasionally but most guys can't play that way game in and game out. Then people turn on the player because he isn't what they thought they were getting but is instead just the player he's always been.

If he's getting paid to be a middle six player/The Third Guy on a line its fine. But there's a lot of danger to be had with any big ticket that goes Ferland's way.

Maybe both players need a change of scenery - but this trade doesn't make a lot of sense to me for Minny. Rask sucks bigger d*cks than Goldy. Nino is clearly a better player and has always been. They're a year apart in age and its only saving Minny 1.25 mil in cap space.
