yes and looking for more leivo type deals
- Bettmanhatesus

taking advantage of other team's cap/roster problems is definitely a good way of getting top dollar for low cost.

Go to a game, bar, etc and there's plenty of dudes who will proudly say that Gudbranson is one of their favourite Canucks. There's also some posters here that I believe will have no problem admitting that they'd like to see Gudbranson here long-term.

I have been known to be one of Gudbransons biggest critics, and have gone on to say that there was a period in this season where he has looked his absolutely best, but I still think he is a bottom pairing at best defender. Like you said, you hope for more trades that like Sutter or Gudbranson, but don't really expect it, or shouldn't expect it.
- Codes1087

I agree. In today's game, he's a 3rd pairing defender.

It's highly unlikely, I agree.

Semi off-topic, but I do find it at least a little bit funny that people are scoffing at the idea of a rebuilding team sitting at 11th in the conference in point percentage deciding to trade away a veteran everyday roster player for a younger asset.

- Nucker101

I don’t scoff at the idea...it could make sense. As an example, trade Sutter and recall Gaudette. We lose a bit but the asset returned would likely be adequate compensation. I just don’t believe aquilini would allow it so I generally dismiss the idea. Hopefully Benning wants to make a move like that and he can convince aquilini. And if he can’t or won’t? Well he is a puppet

I didn't mean it literally, just saying from my personal experience. You'll hear some really stupid poop from fans, usually homers who only really follow the Canucks and not the NHL.

The number of games this year that he has kept us in by making some key poke checks or shot blocks is pretty impressive imo. People forget about him breaking up 2 on 1s regularly when Peteys out there sniping goals
- NorthNuck

Canuck fans need new toys so just get rid of him

I like him and want him here...but that’s also a product of how soft our team is. Replace him with someone tough and better at hockey? Sure, trade him

Generally fans who love their team have much different views from people that don't have the same love for such team. When I discuss Wpg with my friends, they don't like how I am not in love with Joe Morrow or Ehlers.

One friend believes that Kulikov is as good as Edler is.

Imagine if EP hadn't joined the club this year, that would be the best lineup we could ice.

We can only speculate about how hands-on Aquillini is when comes to making a deal like that so it's difficult to say. If FA truly is reluctant to approve player for pick/prospect deals, maybe he would be more likely to give the green light if Sutter was traded for a younger player that's already in the NHL/AHL. Who knows though.

I just hope that aquilini is ok with no playoffs for one more year as the draft is in Van. Then next year he can be aggressive and pursue wins...that’s all we can hope for. He wants playoffs soon that’s for sure

Not saying he isn't making an extra 0.5m per, but his grit, however lacking, is sorely needed and he makes a fine number 5 defensemen.

Edit

Damn, now you've made me agree with both Don and Vantel.... here I thought it was going to be a good day.

I'm fine with him as a depth player, but there are a few reasons why I want him traded and not here long-term despite this team being soft as butter.

1) His injury history despite being a relatively young guy, I wonder how well he'll hold up as he gets older.

2) He's a bit overpaid for what I think he is(bottom pairing dman). And he's probably going to be a disaster once he loses a step since he's not a great skater to begin with(his straight line speed is decent, but everything else is mediocre).

3) I feel like he still has more trade value than actual value to the team despite his struggles here.

I don't think it's crucial to trade him, I'd much rather see Edler and Sutter dealt but he'd be up there on my list after that.

Well Linden was apparently fired because he wanted a slower rebuild so if that's true then yeah, I think that's a long shot. Especially with how EP has lit the league on fire.

They'll likely want to make a splash in free agency and push for the playoffs next season.
