Maybe I’m nuts but where do you see anything for forwards?
- sbroads24

A) The graph had to be isolated by position to get only dmen. Otherwise, it was littered with forwards.

B) The line that Dahlin exceeds is labelled, at the bottom, "Fwd Avg"

I’m no wizard at reading these graphs but I’m pretty sure the “average” you're referring to on that graph is the average offensive zone entries for forwards. That’s the line depicted in the graph.

When I isolated for Dmen on Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Nashville, Risto is better than everyone other than Roman Josi, Dahlin, Dustin Byfuglien, and Matthias Ekholm.

So at least insofar as entries go, this chart says Risto is superior to Trouba, Morrissey, Yannick Weber, Ryan Ellis, PK Subban, and Tyler Myers.

The area where Dahlin exceeds forward average is in carry in percentage. He is far below forward average in Entries/60.

But maybe I’m reading the chart wrong. Maybe.

You’re looking at something different

The Y axis on the graph you quoted is for zone entry %

The tween I quoted is carry measures zone exit carry % and break up % for D men

Edit- Looks like it’s zone entry per 60

Looks like a lateral trade of ahl'ers to me.

I just re-read the tweet. Your chart isn't on Tierney's tableau yet, but he got the data from the tableau i was reading. the one i was reading is different, though.

I actually wouldn’t doubt Risto’s best quality is his ability to carry it into the zone.

It’s the getting it out of his smoothly that’s the issue

Justin Bailey = 20 pts in 37 games (9/11)
Taylor Leier =19 pts in 37 games (10/9)

...Looks like Leier is strictly a LW. Bailey "can" play both, but he's a right shot.
May be just a hockey trade to balance out need? Or may be a LW is on the move in Buffalo or Roc?

Essentially. Leier has a shot to replace Girgensons next year on 4th line if they decide to go cheaper.

Strikes me as just another depth guy. Any reason to think he's better than O'Regan, Oglevie, etc.?

Sounds like he was a 4th liner in Philly.

These trades always puzzle me. It's like, what's the point?

I dont pay a whole lot of attention to Rochester, but we swapped a RW for a LW....might be a reason for that. What it is, i don't know. Not sure what their needs are down there.

Fresh start for both I guess. Disappointing ending to the Bailey/Baptiste era. Will fondly remember people thinking they both earned top 6 minutes in Buffalo.

Yea I got that same impression from scrolling twitter for 20 minutes. Apparently has a lot of speed, played well on 4th line till displaced by high price vet who got bumped down the lineup. Another depth guy who might have a shot as a 4th liner here.

I remember that the main thing was that they would bring speed to the lineup. But neither was an NHL player.

I agree with what people have already said, just an AHL trade.

Kind of sad to see both Baptiste and now Bailey traded from the Sabres. I was in the camp that their speed would help them be bottom 6 guys in the NHL. It now looks like both are going to be AHL'ers or tweeners for life. I think anyone that Murray or Regier brought onto the team has an expiration date. Who's next?

Just my opinion. He's played reduced minutes much of this year, and I see the same player. I'll never question his athleticism or conditioning.
- Lunaion

But Risto's ATOI is still at 25:20 this year. I don't think one minute less per game than the last two years is what people have in mind when they talk about reduced minutes.

We've played a lot of OT. He has a lot of 20-23 minute nights this year. I don't notice a difference in him on those nights. Do you?

Maybe throw Olofsson in there, I would be surprised if Guhle is still with the organization when next year starts

He's getting 1.4 shifts less per game, but his shift length is almost identical. And he's 6th in the league in ATOI. 4th last year, 5th the year before, it really hasn't changed at all.

You'd have to go through and look at his stats when he plays, say more than 24 minutes and less to see if there's a difference.

Is 12 out of 47 a lot (25%)?

Meh...
None of these traded players so far are of much interest to me
