As much as duchense would be nice they wouldn't trade for brassard I wouldn't think unless they're admitting they made a bad trade in the first place. I'd offer up our 5/6/7 dman, brass and a 1st? Cap maybe wouldn't allow for that though...and I doubt that gets it done.

Does the grant trade free up any money? I'd assume at most a couple hundred k...

Agree with this entirely. Ever since he made those comments about not wanting to play 3C I've wanted him gone. Ruth should have traded him in the summer before he damaged his value.

He played a handful of good games. Get's hurt. Then, the minute the season ends he complains about his role. Eff him. Honestly, when I watch him he looks like he's playing not to get hurt. Rarely goes in front of the net and bails out on board work.

I'd love to see us get a high energy 3C......somebody that will drive possession and maybe elevate his wingers. Instead we have this slug who needs the wings to carry him.

Actually you raise a point that I forgot to mention in my prior post(s)...I cannot stand watching Brass play so cautiously. I recall him being a bull who we could not separate from the puck and had a heck of a time winning board battles against, yet on the Pens he plays like he thinks he has B Bennett's injury track record.

Plain and simple GMJR should have seen this early in the season and realized that Brass wasn't playing for the Pens he was playing for another contract elsewhere and just cut bait and tried to salvage something for an asset.

Any chance they could bring bones back for brass? I guess preds don't need to make a move and it could backfire so why would they bother...brass has been awful , I get playing with anchors doesn't help, but he hasn't even shown a flash of his past this season...

Well, according to some sources I read NSH is very happy with Bones, but would still be willing to move him due to his term and they’ve always liked Brassard.

EDIT: Let me clarify "sources" so I don't flamed...

I forget exactly whom, but some sports writer I follow on twitter commented on this and the other is TIOPS.

What is the likelihood of CBJ trading Panarin for Brass? Panarin doesn't want to re sign and it looks like CBJ is Brass' first choice. They get a center and a cheaper contract to spend more on a winger at the deadline.

Interesting read. Toward the end of the article there is this....

There’s also continued speculation around the Penguins potentially moving Brassard, although Rutherford said he doesn’t understand where that’s coming from.

“Nothing’s changed,” Rutherford said of his previous stance that he’d be looking at things closely to ensure Brassard is the right guy for the job. “Media people keep asking about him. We haven’t taken any position one way or the other. I guess it’s a fun topic of the time right now.”

Is this from Alan’s article from raw charge the other day? I haven’t had a chance to read it yet but I saw him tweet it out and it looked interesting.

I think that if Brass is still here after the TDL then he's going to have a massive amount of weight off his shoulders. Also, if the Pens make the playoffs he's going to have a legit shot at something he's dreamed of his whole life. I think we see a bit different of a player IF he's still here when that day passes.

Thanks for posting this. Good read.

Author says "The obvious caveat and takeaway here is that WAR isn’t scripture..."

Of course it isn't, there's not one stat that is.

If there's anyone who subscribes to the athletic, a synopsis of Brassard and Muzzin would be wonderful.

I think the idea of WAR stats are great, but I don't know that I really buy into them.

Maybe if he’s actually healthy but the more I think about it the more I’m positive he’s damaged goods. Nothing else makes sense as to why he’s been so bad here. Aging curves don’t hit THAT hard that he goes to being a good top six player to a replacement level player over night.

This is completely unfounded and just something I thought about it....

Brassard loved playing with the Rangers and the Rangers loved Brassard. With Hayes on the block and the Rangers obviously out of the playoff run, I wonder if there's a deal to be made.

If the Rangers were able to pre-negotiate an extension with Brassard I wonder if there's a way to package a high pick with Brassard to grab Hayes.

I was looking deep into the internet for a graphic ( i never did find it) I saw when Brass was first acquired showing that he was one of the top playoff performers in recent years along side Sid, Geno and Phil. Anyway, in searching for this I came across an older article from Ottawa media talking about how he wasnt working out there either, I never read it at the time. I just started looking and found this but its not the article I saw.

This basically confirms my fears. Option 1 is that the aging curve hit as early as two year in Ottawa and for whatever reason we just didn't notice that his play had started to dip well before we acquired him because he went on a hot streak last year. Option 2 is that some injury hit him in the middle of the season last year before being traded and its lingered for an entire year. Neither option is good and in both cases we need to figure out a smart way to move on.

I think that article is talking about his first 15 months in Ottawa, isnt it?

Agreed. Keep him. You won't get better by trading him and he's been starting to look more like himself recently. He's finding himself open more and more and his shot is getting heavier

It was about him finally being comfortable after 15 months with the Sens and scoring.
