Hard fought game last night. Hart was on fire again. When he fully develops, and the Flyers no longer have goalie issues, what will we have to complain about?

Don't get me wrong I am stoked that they won, but I saw a lot of the same problems from them last night. Pretty glaring defensive lapses, lots of giveaways and unforced errors. I'm shocked we killed off that many penalties (putting G back on the pk was a must) and I'm so glad we had some offensive production but man I just don't feel like we've turned a corner yet. I think we've gotten some solid goaltending and some puck luck... So yes this will impact their confidence in a good way (and hopefully) their drive but we still have LOTS of work to do.

I so prefer watching them win!

Agreed, problems are still there no doubt. A win didn't cover up all the mistakes, but they took strides in some areas that can give hope. 4 games, 10 games, 20 games is not going to turn this team around without changes.

I still don't get what people see in Lyon over Stolarz.
- jmatchett383

me neither.
- nastyflyergirl

Their NHL samples are too small. But I have looked at their AHL work. My question is what do people see in Stolarz over Lyon? Facts or feelings, or just size?

Alex Lyon (Pro for 2 1/2 seasons)
https://www.quanthockey.c.../profile.php?player=51088

For the Phantoms, Lyon has played 93 regular season games for a .912 SV% and 2.73 GAA. Plus, he has played 13 playoff games showing a .940 SV% and 1.99 GAA.

Anthony Stolarz (Pro for 4 1/2 seasons)
https://www.quanthockey.c.../profile.php?player=23490

With 2 more years, Stolarz has played 111 Phantoms regular season games for a .910 SV% and 2.91 GAA. No playoff experience.

With similar Sv% and GAA I'd say the bolded part points to a worse team in front of Stolie not that Stolie is worse.

I tend to look at player attributes, age, contract, viewing experience, situations they were placed in then finally look at stats and numbers.

Why are you hellbent on either of these two as our backup, lets pray it is neither.

His size is a major factor, but his side to side lateral movement is much better than Lyon. Injuries have been a small factor in his short career, which causes concerns, but I believe he has a better overall game to become a backup goalie in the NHL than Lyon does.

Not only that but Lyon in the NHL games I've seen him play tends to lose his net and overplay shots taking himself out of position. Stolarz seems to be much calmer in the net and more sound positionally.

His size and lateral movement. The fact he is 6'6 and doesn't have to account for perfect positioning with better agility than Lyon is my defining factor. Now the question is can Stolarz utilize that size correctly remains to be seen.

why waste years developing goalies when you can just sign any old Joe Smoe? If one of them is not the backup, one of them should be the 3rd goalie depth.

A few of Lyon’s NHL games last season were on point positionally. He was improving and making adjustments after he settled in.

The NHL games for either are spotty and too small of a sample.

I will agree that I think Lyon has overplay shots, but I really have no opinion on whether Stolarz is calmer in net though. I really am not sure, but I seem to remember Stolarz being a bit better handing the puck off to defenders and using his stick just better it most situations.

I agree that a bigger sample size would give us a better idea but we can make some preliminary judgements.

Because stats don't tell the whole story, hell they don't even tell half the story.
