I suppose it could happen, but considering he hasn't been able to get through the last 2 seasons without getting injured, I don't think they'll take that risk.

They came into this year with Elliott/Neuvy!

Claude Giroux is the most underrated athlete in Philadelphia.

Change my mind.

- johndewar

Well, he's not an Eagle, so he's definitely not one of the top-58 rated players.

They also were both already under contract. Yes, they could have been bought out, but it's not exactly apples to apples.

The PK is a lot better now than it was under Hak.

If they do hire a big name head coach like Q in the summer, they should keep Gordon on to run the PK. Lappy can go in to development or some other sideways move.

- Feanor

When Hakstol was the head coach, Lappy got the blame for the PK woes. Now there is a different head coach and Lappy still coaches the PK. Results have been much better. The reality is that it never was about coaching and always about the players.

I think that's what will happen as well, and the Flyers have been unlucky with goalie injuries that past 2 years. But at some point, they have to decide on Lyon and/or Stolarz.
- jmatchett383

Having one of those two backup a young Hart would be a big mistake IMO. This kid is 20 years old, I want a vet he can lean on talk to through any rough patches or just about being a pro.

What I'd like to see for next year:
- Hart's play this year makes him the #1 for next year.
- The organization thanks Elliott for his time, but promotes one of Stolarz/Lyon as the backup (preferably Stolarz, IMO).
- Sandstrom comes over as a split-starter with the non-NHL backup goalie.
- If either Ersson and/or Tomek come over, they become your ECHL starter.

- jmatchett383

Great thought, more likely they still opt for a veteran backup (qualifier one that is physically capable of performing and is not waiver wire fodder)
My gut is
Hart/ Veteran-NHL

Lyon/Sandstrom-AHL

Stolarz or Euro draftee splits time in ECHL with the affiliates primary goalie who is a guy with some AHL experience. Stolarz could turn into that...

I still don't get what people see in Lyon over Stolarz.

Hart has got a great family, sports psychologist, goalie coaches, other coaches, veteran players...have alumni like Parent and Boucher visit with him. Hire someone to be a goalie mentor. But play the best options possible in net.

I actually had a vendor fax me a quote ("We don't use E-Mail here"), and ask for a cash or check when I picked the stuff up ("Well...I GUESS we could ship it if you really wanted us to.")

This was 6 weeks ago.

That's all great but i'd still like someone with him in between periods, grabbing a lunch on a road trip, talking to at practice. It's a different kind of support coming from you're partner in net then calling your family/psychologist.
