1) based on recovery times for core/hip surgeries, his age, how he has looked this season
2) scratching this season (as I don’t count it), last season he had some good games for the Flyers and alright numbers in a rather small sample size. Lots of good NHL goaltenders never have eye-popping AHL numbers. Lyon has played very well for the Phantoms.
3) I already said I don’t think so. - NC Flyers Fan
We clearly think differently, hopefully it's neither Lyon or Elliot. Need an actual backup, not a maybe this guy will work or an old injured vet. |

Yes, this is the real debate. I can’t sugarcoat it. And frankly it is close. I think for me it boils down to the fact that over time I believe Lyon will miss less games due to injuries. Stolarz more because of his size. Advantage and disadvantage. - NC Flyers Fan
Well the Flyers should be able to keep both of them in the organization for another year. They most likely aren't going to be claimed on waivers to start the 19-20 season.

Considering he keeps getting injured, and at best, he's their number 3 prospect after Hart and Sandstrom, I'd move Stolarz for whatever you can get after this season and go with Sandstrom/Lyon for the Phantoms next year. Go out and a sign a durable and capable veteran to back up Hart for the next year or 2 and we should be set. |

If Sandstrom comes over next year its not to sit. I would move either Lyon or Stolarz for best return and the other splits with Sandstrom.

I saw a tweet that claimed Weise was waived and sat out of the past two games because he's getting traded. If that's the case then it's time to promote an AHL forward. - Feanor
Why would someone trade for Weise when they could claim him for free when he was waived? |

Too many in the minors. Its time to move on from either Lyons or Stolarz. Unless you think that Stolie can be Hart's back-up. But with injuries and playing fewer games then Hart... I dont see it happening.

It looks like this might be their plan. I think that with more opportunity, Lyon would be a better backup than anything on the open market. I know that my opinion is unpopular and unlikely. It is still my opinion.

I don’t know why anyone would want him. But they could trade an ECHL player for weise and have the flyers retain half the salary. If they claim. Their taking all of it |

His cap hit isn't that large IMO. I would prefer to bury him and have him for a call up if we need it next year, unless Detroit is just taking him so he can end his career there. |

He could be, but with a 21 year old starter who will have less than 50 games of NHL experience as the #1, I want a guy with more than 13 NHL games of experience as my #2.

One game then bye-bye Mike McKenna. I haven't been counting his games, but we can send him back to Vancouver right... I don't think he has dressed in enough games. |

Tomek is likely no better than your typical ECHL starter, so I doubt he ever plays for the Phantoms. Ersson will be here one day, but I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't stay in Sweden for at least one more year as that seems to be the norm for Swedish goalie prospects. |

What I'd like to see for next year:
- Hart's play this year makes him the #1 for next year.
- The organization thanks Elliott for his time, but promotes one of Stolarz/Lyon as the backup (preferably Stolarz, IMO).
- Sandstrom comes over as a split-starter with the non-NHL backup goalie.
- If either Ersson and/or Tomek come over, they become your ECHL starter. |

I suppose it could happen, but considering he hasn't been able to get through the last 2 seasons without getting injured, I don't think they'll take that risk.

More than likely the Flyers still get a veteran goalie in the offseason or even a trade this year, whether Hart plays the rest of the year and looks amazing. |

I think that's what will happen as well, and the Flyers have been unlucky with goalie injuries that past 2 years. But at some point, they have to decide on Lyon and/or Stolarz. |

Especially those tied to Brynas as they have an excellent goalie coach it seems. |

Good win by the Flyers last night. Hart was rock solid and so poised. I thought Hagg played well too.
It would be a tragedy if G doesn't win a Cup with this team. He'll finish his career second in scoring if he plays out his days here in Philly. This team better win a Cup during that time. - hockeylover
Claude Giroux is the most underrated athlete in Philadelphia.
Change my mind. |
