Depends. He'd have to take a 1-year deal and be okay with being a backup.
- jmatchett383

Yea, that was the premise. Hart was the starter and we resigned Elliot to backup. To be honest I don't see many teams calling him for a starting job, best he could do this off season would maybe be a tandem situation.

Beggars can't be choosers. No team is giving 34 year old Brian Elliott more than a one year backup deal after two straight years where he missed months of the season with injuries.

I think he's been good here when he's been healthy, and his overall SV% was hurt badly by a pathetic and passive PK. But I think Fletcher will be happy to move on from a guy that Hextall signed and who's getting up there in age.

If you're not playing Hart, you're not playing to win. I get there's back to backs so their is an exception.

Wasn't pretty but they got the job done. Halak was trash so that helped.

- Pelle31Forever

Honestly, I think goaltending is the #1 factor in the win last night. Halak was off his game and Hart was great. A couple other Flyers were good (Lindblom especially) but they really didn't look all that great overall.

Hard fought game last night. Hart was on fire again. When he fully develops, and the Flyers no longer have goalie issues, what will we have to complain about?
- jsh139

You're somewhat new-ish here so you may not have noticed that there are some folks here who are much smarter than any Flyers executive or coach. That's lucky for the rest of us as they'll tell us all the things that are complaint worthy.

Lehtera should never play another game for the Flyers.
- Feanor

I can not believe he got back in the lineup

I saw a tweet that claimed Weise was waived and sat out of the past two games because he's getting traded. If that's the case then it's time to promote an AHL forward.
- Feanor

Lehtera serves no useful purpose on a daily basis with this team, but when he actively hurts them the way he did last night, that can't be tolerated.

I feel like this year, we have been on the other end of this result more often than not.

Absolutely not, Lyon should not be the backup to our 21 year old goaltender next year. I'd rather resign Elliot for a one year than do that.
- ClaudeFather

If you re-sign Elliott, it's likely he gets hurt at some point and Lyon comes up anyway.
- Feanor

Lyon is underrated and hasn’t had an real opportunity at the NHL level. Elliott may need a whole extra year to get his game back and stay healthy at the same time. I wonder if he will do it or thinks of retiring. Either way, I have moved on from him in Flyerland.

Hart has the potential to be exceptional. Lyon has the potential to be very good. Just because we have Hart doesn’t mean we should sell our goalie farm and go with an “okay” backup just because he is ****veteran****.

Look back at my first post...it’s fine to have that veteran presence as the 3rd guy if you must.

They were terrible. Their game is still absolute garbage. The only difference is hart.

The PK is a lot better now than it was under Hak.

If they do hire a big name head coach like Q in the summer, they should keep Gordon on to run the PK. Lappy can go in to development or some other sideways move.

1) why will it take Elliot a whole year to get healthy 2) Lyon has never been great in the NHL, less than average, and his AHL numbers are not eye popping either 3) We would essentially need Elliot for ~27 games next year, he can most likely manage that.

Hart is the Flyer’s starter.

I have said since the summer, my unpopular opinion, I would like a Hart/Lyon tandem next season. If you need a little veteran security, you get one on a AHL/NHL deal and pair him with Sandstrom on the Phantoms.

Hart is about to get a nice break so I don’t think he is being overused. Lyon has been a bit...maybe a couple of conditioning stints by Elliott/Stolarz can spell him down the stretch. Maybe they waive Neuvy...if he is not picked up then he can backup Lyon.

I would have really liked Lyon to get more NHL games this season, but injuries happen and Hart earned the spot. I am not ready to give up on Lyon though.

I personally prefer Stolarz over Lyon

The pk has improved. Yes that’s another difference

if that was a night that the Flyers got the quality of goaltending that they were regularly getting before Hart....that game could of been ugly.

you can't have a fourth line guy playing 6 minutes a night giving the other team 7 minutes of pp time...along with his ineptitude on the score sheet and his legal issues I think it's time to cut bait.

1) based on recovery times for core/hip surgeries, his age, how he has looked this season

2) scratching this season (as I don’t count it), last season he had some good games for the Flyers and alright numbers in a rather small sample size. Lots of good NHL goaltenders never have eye-popping AHL numbers. Lyon has played very well for the Phantoms.

3) I already said I don’t think so.

Yes, this is the real debate. I can’t sugarcoat it. And frankly it is close. I think for me it boils down to the fact that over time I believe Lyon will miss less games due to injuries. Stolarz more because of his size. Advantage and disadvantage.

Good win by the Flyers last night. Hart was rock solid and so poised. I thought Hagg played well too.

It would be a tragedy if G doesn't win a Cup with this team. He'll finish his career second in scoring if he plays out his days here in Philly. This team better win a Cup during that time.
