This wasn't a player evaluation...it was did the goals per game over a significant time determine who was the better goal scorer. It did. Off that dudes nuts. - ClaudeFather
First off was this English? Secondly, this whole discussion was based off your absolute statement that stats tell the whole story. If stats told the whole story we still wouldn't be discussing this AND there would be no different opinions. |

If someone asked you who is better at scoring goals, Seguin or Hall, what evidence would you turn to? I'll wait. |

Nino is a nice player. Always liked him. Not sure about the return Minny got but if he was available i'd wonder what they were after if the Flyers inquired. |

I can only look at his stats after his career is done to know whether to draft him or not. |

I would of been ok if the Flyers got into that conversation as well. Who knows if Fletcher even discussed Nino or not. |

Depends on the person asked...
Person that doesn't watch a lot of hockey would go right to the NHL website and look at his stats.
A scout, hockey insider or even a tv announcer would reflect back on previous viewings of that player. The release of their shot, how quick and hard they shoot it, the accuracy of the shot, where they score their goals, consistency, etc then they would check their overall performance. Find out how many they scored and with who. A scorer normally needs a linemate that can get them the puck, did they have one?
I would probably go with the full evaluation of the player.
Now keep in mind, don't get stuck on just Hall Vs Seguin, this discussion was just which one of those were better. It was about ANY player evaluation based only on their stats...superstars, role players, defensemen, goaltenders. |

and do you know where all those little things you just posted show up? In the stats, better release, more goals, more accuracy, more goals. Stats were a vital part of evaluating was all i said and that is true. |

Ohhhhh the parameters changed again...
Now it only works with NHL players, again don't get confused because I gave one example and get stuck on that one thing.
No matter the league, age, type of player....stats tell the story. |
