When you do it points/game JvR looks even worse, and Hall is clearly the best of the three. Then factor in how he plays the game and Hall is my clear choice.
- Scoob

and JVR has the worst PPG and GPG....my point proven.

Their NHL samples are too small. But I have looked at their AHL work. My question is what do people see in Stolarz over Lyon? Facts or feelings, or just size?

Alex Lyon (Pro for 2 1/2 seasons)
https://www.quanthockey.c.../profile.php?player=51088

For the Phantoms, Lyon has played 93 regular season games for a .912 SV% and 2.73 GAA. Plus, he has played 13 playoff games showing a .940 SV% and 1.99 GAA.

Anthony Stolarz (Pro for 4 1/2 seasons)
https://www.quanthockey.c.../profile.php?player=23490

With 2 more years, Stolarz has played 111 Phantoms regular season games for a .910 SV% and 2.91 GAA. No playoff experience.

I am not looking at stats, I am looking at the way they look(ed) in the NHL. I don't see many Phantoms games

There’s lots of opinions on the internet of both Lyon and Stolarz. Most are positive and hopeful. My own has a lot to do with watching Lyon play against Charlotte in the AHL playoffs last season. He was nothing short of spectacular. If that is his top game, he has a lot of potential. Charlotte people around me said they thought Lyon would be the Flyers starter this season. I said I don’t know...can’t forget about Carter Hart. Who? was their reply. Lol

Here is some of the write ups out there:

Lyon: Very technique-oriented goalie that combines quick reflexes with sound positional play. Superior core and lower-body strength exhibited through quick cross-crease pushes and smooth lateral movement. Quick glove hand that doesn't get beat very often. Isn't very scrambly and accurately predicts where the puck is going to hit him and where it will be redirected to if he doesn't hold onto it. Analyzes odd-man situations well and is always a step ahead. -Elite Prospects

Stolarz has the pure raw ability that could see him develop into a starting goalie at the NHL level. But he’s very injury prone and it’s hurting his chances. June 2018 – Stolarz was moving up the depth chart and looked to take advantage of what could be a quickly closing window of opportunity last fall when disaster struck. He underwent knee surgery that wiped out nearly his entire season. In late-season games after his return, he struggled to find his form. Meanwhile, Alex Lyon acquitted himself well and Carter Hart creeps ever closer to readiness. Running out of time. - Dobber

Blessed with a calm demeanor and fluid mobility, Lyon carries the potential to one day become a starting goaltender in the NHL. - Dobber

Has a huge frame (he covers a lot of net) and plenty of presence when he's in the crease area. Plays with loads of confidence, including in terms of handling the puck. Has a tendency to let bad goals affect him a little too much, so he needs to continue to work on the mental side of the game. Must generally work on his consistency. - sportsforcaster.com

Powerfully built, his strong lower base allows him to quickly move side to side in the crease area. Is a proven puck-stopping talent at lower levels. Needs to learn shooters' tendencies at the National Hockey League level. Can be beaten upstairs from time to time, so he needs to shore that up. -sportsforcaster.com

All this for Hart's next waterboy.

I totally understand the whole picture view but you need to look at stats and numbers first.
- ClaudeFather

if you are looking at stats first what about Hart's AHL numbers looked all that great? I am looking at their play while with the Flyers. I like Stolarz's game better.

too small of a sample size, too young. It's not science, there are other factors, but with a large sample size numbers tell the majority of the story.

Also if you look at the young kid in LA, doesn't he have better numbers than Hart?

Cal Petersen 11 GP 5-4-1 .924% 2.61 GAA
Carter Hart 11 GP 5-5-1 .915% 2.72 GAA

Can we trade Hart for Petersen?

wouldn't surprise me if they both end up as career AHL players, however, I would bet Stolaz has the better chance to stick as a back up in the NHL. I personally feel he is the more talented goalie. the downside to Stolarz has been his knee issues which does give me pause. we've see enough of goalies who have been injured a lot.

either way, I would bet on the Flyers signing or trading for a veteran for next season. But choosing between the two, I go Stolarz

The Avs might be a nice place for Simmer. They are not playing well but they are in the playoff race, they need secondary scoring.
