Virtanen was always contributing in other ways and he still isn’t consistent. The difference is he doesn’t have to score to be effective - CanuckDon
Sorry, but no. Virtanen hardly showed up to his first 100 games. Saw less than 10 minutes and went games without throwing a hit |

I mean, so was Virtanen for the first 150 games of his career. Goldobin just passed 100 games and has a mix of some good games and awful ones. Most young players struggle to find consistency - WhiteLie
Virtanen to me was inconsistent in playing style more so than whether he was defensively responsible. I dont remember watching virtanen and thinking he was an anchor to his line desfensively like i think goldy is. Virtanen seemed to either want to play smart hockey or he wanted to go out and hit everything he saw, regardless he moved his feet and made it back into the play. I just feel goldy is first forward out of the zone and last back. Misses man coverage. Takes lazy offensive zone penalties. He needs to be more responsible imo. |

He was generally driving play and was never a defensive liability. He sucked but way less than the floater sucks (every shift that he isn’t stapled to eP) |

I heard a reporter ask him in a radio clip and he responded no, not playing tonight. - hillbillydeluxe
Yeah but he hates the media so he's probably lying to them. |

I'm definitely not disagreeing with the defensive criticisms of Goldobin, I just think its crazy to give up on a player with his offensive talents this early. Especially given the work Green put in to developing Virtanen, who was susceptible to being lazy/unengaged. I fully support him getting healthy scratched, benched, etc. as he needs to learn; but IMO he's capable of developing the necessary consistency |

I agree he was less of a liability on defense, but driving play is laughable. He might've been on the positive side of Corsi, but he was never really a threat offensively until this year. Even now he is still more complimentary than one that dictates the play |

Not sure why you are focusing on Virtanen. The discussion is around how (frank)ing terrible Goldobin is |

I mean, its a pretty good example of fans having more patience with Vancouver-drafted prospects than acquired ones - WhiteLie
I’d say that’s true for most fanbase
They get more emotionally invested in their own high draft picks and tend to overrate them
If Virtanen and Juolevi were picks of the Flames and Oilers, a decent portion of this fanbase would value them less as players/prospects |

For sure, its funny how draft day has a lingering impact on the fans impression of their players |

Linden's look will haunt us for a long time.
You're a good poster but how many more chances does Goldobin need? |
