holy f*ck, that was a huge hit.
thanks for posting - Codes1087
Clean hit. Guds was going into the hit right when the puck left his stick. They were both at full speed when it happened. |

Just talking about hockey hits in general.
There's simple bumps to knock a guy off the puck, and then there's lining a player up to crush them. They may not plan for the hit to result in an injury, but they certainly want the other guy to feel it, and not in a good way.
So when a guy skates 20 feet out of his way to finish an extra-hard check on a vulnerable player after the puck is already gone and an injury results, it's a little disingenuous to say "I never meant to hurt him." - YeOldTimer
I disagree. Body checking is part of the game, but there is obviously rules in place that separate what is clean/dirty and what is legal/penalized. Going 20 feet out of his way to finish a check is charging. Hitting a guy late is interference. Hitting a guy in the numbers can be called whatever the ref wants of Boarding/Interference. I would argue that guys like Cooke and Wilson interntionally go out to hurt people, yes, but the vast majority of guys that throw massive hits that do injure guys, I wouldn't say they do it maliciously or with intent. Byfuglien destroys guys 10x a year, and openly admits that he lets up on all of them, and never wants to hurt them. |

If the Buff’s, Chara and Reaves guys didn’t let up there would be a ton of injuries in his league. |

His job is to finish his checks. At that size people will get hurt sometimes, and yeah they know it. It’s part of the game - neem55
A very, very important part. Much less of a challenge to pull off all the athletic actions that hockey players execute if there isn't someone trying to hurt you while you're attempting them. |

the only hit to me that is a super Grey is the blindside hit. Much like Kadri on Sedin, Martel on Stecher, etc. Those hits really aren't defined and often go unpunished unless there is significant video footage showing the head as being the complete principle point of contact.
If guys end up getting hurt on legal checks that don't go penalized or the league doesn't find them suspension worthy, it really is hard to argue.

100%
Also a lot of players do have some level of respect for each other. I always think of the McQuaid hit on Raymond in the SCF. Was it a dirty hit going by the book? Maybe interference but not a hit that gets you suspended if you don't have a history.
But it was 100% a hit that most players will let up on because they know the dude that they're hitting is in a vulnerable position, that's why you rarely see hits like that. |

I mean Dp/eg play nothing alike. Beaulieu still has upside, not too old and cab skate/be physical. It would be cheap, similar to the dp trade where youre expecting he may turn it around still |

DP and EG are offensively handicapped defenseman who cater more towards being stay at home/defensive minded (debateable how good they at that even). Our team is so badly needing a PP quarterback (as seen by Edlers drop pass give-away last night). I just don't see the point tbh. |

He wasn’t afraid to put him back in the ice after his major gaff that directly led to a goal in the game vs Arizona. A guy has to learn from his mistakes but to what extent? |

Every time a player lines someone up for a hard check they do intend to hurt them. Just not in a bad way, if that makes any sense. Don't think Kassian was doing anything other than finishing a hard check.
That 3 game suspension Byron got for his hit on the Florida guy seems pretty silly compared to the hit on Stecher a while back that went unpunished. - YeOldTimer
Totally agree. Nobody uses a body check to separate a player from the puck. You hit him to make him think twice about: going to the net, or the corner, or skating through the middle. It’s a message. Saying they aren’t trying to hurt a guy is like saying a shot on goal isn’t trying to score. |

why does it have to be one or the other? If Horvat didn't limp, or get possibly injured, no one would have said a thing about the hit, cause to me it was clean, normal, within the rules, and was just a basic hockey hit. And I highly disagree with players always hit with the intention of causing pain/injury. Im not saying players hit without that, as i said earlier, cooke and wilson i believe hit to cause injury, but the vast majority of players who hit, within the rules, don't hit with any other intention that what you said above. |

Hurt is the wrong word. I will rephrase they aren’t looking to intentionally injure or maim the opposing player. Cooke and Others like him did. If Chara wanted to destroy a guys career he could. |
