It doesn't matter but it was Kassian.

Retribution?
- LordHumungous

Kassian was mad about a Gudbranson hit on another Oiler just prior. Took it out on Horvat.

That's a pretty high price to buy a 7th round pick. Ducks will probably get a higher one back by moving Del Zotto again at the deadline.
- YeOldTimer

hes a UFA, if your cap allows for it, i would take a 7th round pick for a 750k retained salary any day of the week. And I doubt MDZ gets moved again in 5.5 weeks.

they never showed a replay of that Gudbranson hit on Jones. Crowd went bananas, shorthouse seemed to play it up like a huge hit, but no footage.

Cool thx for the link.

Interestingly enough it looked like Kassian intentionally lifted his left leg in a kicking motion.

But I'm sure Green will come out publically and say he was 'real upset' over the play that he 'didn't see'.

lol. Very true but Kassian is a far better skater that Lucic. Milan looked terrible out there.

I thought that was odd as well. Maybe they didn't have a good camera angle on it. Then there was the Horvat injury concern immediately after for them to talk about.

Shorty was saying that Kassian was challenging Gudbranson after that, all the way to the bench and Gudbranson declinded. Not really sure if it was retribution or not, cause despite Kassian's leg lifting up, it still looks pretty innocent imo. Routine hockey hit resulting in a bit of a charlie horse.

There was talk a few weeks back that some eastern teams (Islanders I think) had some interest in Del Zotto. He skates well enough and could play the power play on some teams as an injury replacement. His physical play from last year might appeal to some GM's. I could see him being picked up as insurance depth for some playoff team.

i would be surprised if a playoff team wanted to acquire him for depth, but you never know. As far as the value, the Canucks had to make a roster move with EP coming back. Shedding MDZ, making room for EP, and acquiring a 7th in the process was another decent move by JB. As long as he is acquiring picks and not dishing them out, I am happy. ALSO - side note, Cayden Primeau and Philip Kent (team USA WJC players) were both 7th rounders coming out of the USHL. Not saying all 7th rounds pan out, but if we continue to give Brackett these late rounds picks and he starts plucking these kids from the USHL, I am happy

Every time a player lines someone up for a hard check they do intend to hurt them. Just not in a bad way, if that makes any sense. Don't think Kassian was doing anything other than finishing a hard check.

That 3 game suspension Byron got for his hit on the Florida guy seems pretty silly compared to the hit on Stecher a while back that went unpunished.

i think the above is debateable. I don't think hard equates to intentional harm. Ive watched it a few times from the link and can't really find much wrong with it. Also doesn't look malicious imo.

Just talking about hockey hits in general.

There's simple bumps to knock a guy off the puck, and then there's lining a player up to crush them. They may not plan for the hit to result in an injury, but they certainly want the other guy to feel it, and not in a good way.

So when a guy skates 20 feet out of his way to finish an extra-hard check on a vulnerable player after the puck is already gone and an injury results, it's a little disingenuous to say "I never meant to hurt him."

I was timing his shifts and the highest was 21 seconds. Very limited ice times.

His job is to finish his checks. At that size people will get hurt sometimes, and yeah they know it. It’s part of the game
