Trade doesn't really make sense to me. But tis the season.

Probably just a move for Anaheim to shake things up.

I don't see either as being on the hotseat this year.
Housley has shown signs that his system, when played properly can win games.
He does not yet have enough horses to have it executed consistently on ice.
Not having the horses is not his liability.

JBotts inherieted a mess of an organization and has shown enough to warrant staying to see this through. He still has a ton of work to do no doubt, but you don't eat an elephant in one bite, rather one bite at a time. He has had one TDL, one offseason and one draft to begin to execute his plan...each one has been decent. This season we start to see them liberate the roster deadweight players on expensive contracts given their production.
He has two more seasons in my mind.

I meant Anaheim coach/GM

He gave up an equal number of bad rebounds/mistakes to big saves. In fact his best save was off his worst give away.

Neither one has really earned permanent starter status.

Ullmark has earned the next start - temporary starter status ok?

Agree and would only adjust this to say that Botts has two years minimum. To get bounced in two years time would mean he has made some major mistakes. I see him as being a long term plan for GM. Housley... as of now, he's on track. I know we all want better, but from an overall evaluation, comparing last year to this year, he's definitely on track. His tenure will be determined based on next year and whether or not the team continues its upward trend.

its not about earning it or not. neither one of these goalies is used to a starters workload. Especially for Ullmark who is still wet behind the ears in terms of NHL experience.

in two games he'll tie his career high for starts/appearances. Asking him to take on 2/3 of the remaining games is likely beyond his capabilities right now.

He won the game last night. Thatโ€™s the bottom line.

But by my count there were three or four off the pipes, in addition to that horrible giveaway l, and CalGARy also missed an empty net.

It was a win, but I didnโ€™t see it as an amazing performance.

If he was actually forcing the organization to make that tough decision, that'd be one thing.

But you're right, there isn't much there to suggest that if you increased his workload he'd be able to sustain what is already questionable (at times) goaltending.

They've done a phenomenal job bringing him into the fold slowly. I bet he could physically handle playing 20-some games down the stretch, but who knows how the results would be. Whatever happens, he's having a very nice "rookie" year, and I think he will be good to go with 50-55 starts next year. I think they'll get better results from Hutton with 30 or so starts next year.

The results so far are just average back up level, maybe a little higher. With the pressure on and twice the workload, it's likely to hurt the team during important stretches.

But I'd like to hear from those that thought I was bat poop insane for merely suggesting the idea of looking for a potential upgrade

I would give up a 1st round pick this year to move Okposo to a team.
- SABRES 89

That would be a big hell no from me on that idea.

Ride it out, even if it means putting him on waivers after next year.

So continue to start the veteran and lose?

Or , let the young guy play 24 out of 36 games?
See what you have? Play him until he goes cold.

How does anyone know the extent of ullmark's nhl capabilities? He's been sitting, but once a week.

Just alternate, neither one is going to steal games. They'll go as far as the team takes them.

A .917 is pretty good. Certainly not a problem. Ditto with the sub 3 GAA

I wouldn't divert any murrancy to the goaltending position. A couple more guys putting the puck into the net makes the results look much rosier. What names are you thinking for an upgrade? I like where we're at salary wise with these two

Looking for upgrades everywhere, including goaltending, is logical, but if it were me, I would give up nothing of significance for a goaltending upgrade, especially considering what they are paying both goaltenders in total.

Ullmark played well
Sabres won

Did eichel's multiple goal posts equal any of calgary's?

Not sure why ullmark's bar is set at amazing performance level?

This only makes sense if your goaltending is already good enough. They're both good value for what they are, back ups. You're not going to win much if you're rolling two backups all year.

Both are fine for now, neither one of them is your long term solution for when this team is a legit playoff contender. Im not sure who's going to be available this summer.

I think you may have misunderstood the point of my post.

I am not setting his bar at amazing performance. Other posters started the morning by contending that Ullmark has to be the starter after last night's performance and I am only answering that I know we won, but I wouldn't say it was because Linus played great. He played well enough.

And yes, Jack hit posts. I don't know how that's relevant to judging Linus.

NHL average for SV% is .908 this year, and Ullmark is at .917 though. Idk what number you're trying to get to, like .920? Sure they could take a run at Bob, but he's gotta be thinking he's gonna cash in at $7+ m over a fair amount of term.

Ullmark is at 2.86 GA; all the Sabres have to do is consistently score 3 goals and they'll win more than they lose. That's where the problem lies imo

just curious why you say neither will steal games, when they have both done the very thing you say they can't do ?

yes they have cooled off, but they have both shown they are capable of stealing games.

Bob is at .903 this year BTW and a 2.94 GAA

You take out the stinker vs TBL and Ullmarks last 5 games are elite level numbers like .955 and <2

he played well enough to win, all that matters when compared to Hutton that has NOT played well enough to win.

Can he be better yep no question. but he has shown that he can play very well. Not surprising that a young guy struggles with consistency.
