onto already drafted prospects, realistically which college prospects do you anticipate being signed after this season?
Wade Allison
Noah Cates
Joel Farabee
Gavin Hain
Wyatt Kalynuk
Tanner Laczynski
Jay O'Brien
John St Ivany
Brendan Warren - nastyflyergirl
I don't know if Allison wants to stay and graduate, but according to this report, he is a junior and is 21 YO: https://www.nbcphiladelph...ut_for_WMU-500280531.html
For some of these guys, I guess it depends how long they want to stay in school. Anyone else remember waiting for JvR? |

Correct, I also remember the Flyers organization getting impatient that he stayed that long. |

If he didn't gt hurt last year I think he might have signed after last season. Just my feeling.
I could see him coming out this year just for that reason. |

Assuming they make it to the playoffs, I'd like to see the Phantoms offer Allison an ATO after his season is over. |

If I was the kid and had a major injury that I knew I'd recover from and could use a year in college to get back into full game shape I'd go back to college rather than sign as a pro and have that wear and tear soon after surgery. |

I understand both sides of the coin when dealing with a prospect drafted out of the USNP, but as a business/life decision it's a no brainer.
Prospects tend to have two reasons to stay in school, which normally are connected to each other:
1) Parents want them to get a degree
2) The parents/prospect want something to fall back on if sports doesn't work out
Both are extremely understandable, but if you want a pro career the sooner the better will always win out. Many players get their degrees while playing and in my opinion is a hell of a lot easier to get it that way, especially in the offseason. Ok you don't get the "college experience", but I would rather have the "making money and being comfortable later in life experience". Again it also depends on the prospect and their likelihood of a pro career is...1st round talent compared to a 5th rounder is much much different.
First year of school is probably the toughest for adjustment so going for one year isn't that big of a deal and can be useful for development. Now if the player plans on going for the full 4 years now they risk injury which could jeopardize their scholarship and risks them from actually getting a pro contract to begin with. Then even if you do make it through all 4 years, get that degree, they are now starting behind others at 22-23 years old and then factor in their performance/progression during those years.
Now you look at top prospects that get their first pro salary (750-900K) and that's enough to have a paid off house, car and zero debt. As a starting point in life it makes life as easy as it can get, not many people start like that. I mean I was in school, got my first software job at 19 and started at 55K and that made life so much easier, now imagine everything paid off too. If a person can have very little expense to start and somehow is hurting later in life, they screwed up big time along the way.
Again if you are a top prospect with a good shot at playing in the NHL, to me it makes little sense to go for more than one year to school. |

Yes, it is and that's why I added it. I wanted to make sure someone didn't assume that everyone should be treated the same in this situation. |

Depends on the definition of a bust is. If the player is still young and playing in the NHL then the player isn't a bust, the persons expectations are. |
