Right or wrong, good or bad, being drafted number 1 and 2 often does that.

Kane v. JVR is the most egregious case against lottery, like ever in my mind.

just play good hockey

please lose well.

Exactly -- nothing good comes from playing horribly for extended periods, never correcting bad habits, not improving

Bill is dead-solid correct, though he is more polite: The Flyers are absolutely effed if Patrick, Ghost and Provorov regress into hot garbage

I understand completely why some believe that if you're bad, be as bad as possible, but for the Flyers to be that bad, you are taking the risk that the young players aren't long-term answers

Like I said earlier. Trades of simmer and raffl coupled with a 2 month injury to a giroux or a gudas....it wouldn’t take much to be staring down the barrel of 70 pts

Bit unfair to Ghost Patrick and Provorov
None is bust just wrong usage.
Why should a 21 year old Provorov play more then 25 minutes
Patrick ditto he isn't a 2C at this point.
Ghost is just a offensive minded d-man who shouldn't play on Top pair

Honestly, it's probably more about now they're 19-20 and they have a lot of money relatively speaking. Sometimes a dangerous cocktail.
- MJL

Exactly they are put in situations, especially financial wise, many people will never experience. As long as you don't (frank) up beyond belief you got it made for the rest of your life.

Anyone....imagine never having to pay a mortgage or rent again, having zero debt and no car payment. Anyone could work at Walmart for the rest of their lives and live very comfortable.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yes, let's go to the most extremes possible. What happens when that same exact injury happens when they are in school? You do realize no play means no scholarship. Do you think a college athlete gets to finish degree if they get injured, well yeah if they pay tuition.

What happens when ANY single person gets injured so bad they can never work again, what do they do? Exactly what does that mean, what you are saying has absolute no barring on the conversation.

"Why do think most ELC guys live with established players?"

Yes, yes yes...all players on ELC are totally broke, all money is gone and that's why they live with established players. Definitely not because most are extremely young, away from home, new to the area and could use mentoring or help adjust to the life of a professional athlete....definitely because they have no money, that's it.

I'm assuming you picked one thing that was mentioned, grabbed onto it and thought of the most extreme scenario then cranked it up a notch. Yes, I mentioned injuries, not life threatening situations that could happen. Injuries happen all the time, but they also factor into, as well as performance and progression, whether a team ends up signing them to a pro contract.

Now Pascal Laberge, if he was committed to an NCAA school and had the same injury history he has now...don't you think the chances of him receiving an ELC from the Flyers would be lower now?

- Glak18

Away from home? Seriously? Millions of college and university students do the same thing every year and have no issues. They all dont go to school at home, they find a place to rent on their own or pay to live on campus....

I think there are a number of players on the Phantoms that have a chance of becoming regulars at the NHL level

A 21 year old Provorov should play a lot because he is the teams top defenseman. Gostisbehere at his best should also play heavy minutes.

Is RNH that horrible that he could not be our 3c?

Just curious. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.

For Sanheim, or Ghost?

- DrMidnite

Not a big RNH fan but I can't pretend like he wouldn't improve our crappy center depth.

No way am I moving Sanhiem for him though. Would probably pass on Ghost too. We really can't afford to trade the young D men imo.

Most college students can't afford to pay their own rent. Do college students have any support people around them to help them adjust to a new life?

Milbury is right. Flyers need to ask for young forward(s) that are close to the nhl from Boston. They have a bunch so Boston could be an ideal landing spot for simmer

So you really believe Giroux lived with Briere because he had no money? I'm curious does Nolan have a second job to help for his first few years?

Found this old gem, oddly no mention about "I can't afford to live on my own because I have no money". Around 2 minute mark they talk about why he moved in. Adjusting, being responsible and how to do things the right way as a pro. Again stated 23 years old and could get his own place, but decided to move in with the Briere family. Pretty sure Mike Richards and Jeff Carter both got their own apartments their first year in the league.

They may be...but how to either of them afford rent? I was told players on ELC don't actually get any money.
