Anyone see Sam's tweet last night about a possible deal repoted by TSN but I guess was somehow a fake that was removed.

Simmonds to Edmonton for Puljujarvi and Talbot.

Just for fun.

Do you think the next coach will use the 5 forward PP unit or will he try to sit down with Ghost and fix try to him?
- dragonoffrost

Well we don’t know who the next coach will be, but it’s safe to assume he’ll re-work the PP; it also depends if Knoblauch is retained with a coaching change. However, it seems our PP was sorta figured out by other teams; you put the pressure hard on G and Ghost and things can go south. And To your point of sitting with Ghost, I think it’s clear he’s having some confidence issues (like a lot of this team this season). My question was/is definitely short sighted.

Direct Quotes... per Bill

van Riemsyk has been on a tear since a brief partial-game demotion to the fourth line and a talk with interim head coach Scott Gordon about getting his game back on track. JVR said that his previous relationship in Toronto with Gordon built a strong line of communication between the two of them.

"I think he’s getting more volume. It’s one thing to get there two or three times a night but on a power play I think that was the area I felt he could be better in and I think he was trying to be an outlet in areas that didn’t provide him opportunities," Gordon said.

"I think for me the only thing that made it easier is the fact that I knew what he was capable of so I could fall back to our experience in Toronto. What I saw there and wasn’t seeing here so it was a good conversation. It wasn’t anything about being a poor player it was just about how to be better and be yourself."

I read the blog. I'll answer the questions myself. I'm a fan of the comments that Gordon makes and his thoughts on the game. It seems to me that he is a good communicator. Ultimately though and it's the same for every coach, the player has to perform on the ice. What ultimately made the difference is JvR's play on the ice.

Combination of the coach, coaching the player, and the player, executing. It's not one or the other, it's both.

Hak tried it with Jake earlier and Jake pretty much said (frank) it.

- dragonoffrost

Ultimately, it's up to the player. That's my point.

I don’t know what to think about the 5 forward vet PP group yet. However, in a brief showing, I really could see what Ghost added to the youth group. I really liked it. Earlier in the season, I suggested trying Voracek on the second unit, to fill the missing element there. They did indeed try that but it didn’t work. I think Ghost could really be their missing link. It was one game. It was new so it will be interesting to watch it.

Personally, I don't think other teams can figure out your PP to the point of being ineffective due to that.

As far as the new PP configuration, I'm not really a fan of it. First of all, Giroux is on the wrong side of the ice. His angle for both passing and shooting has been changed. Couturier on the other half wall is not a good distributor of the puck on the wall. It basically comes down to Voracek shooting from the top with a double screen. I'm going to keep an open mind though and see how it works.

Well read it again lmao, why do you always have these objective horrible comments? Clearly Gordon had a talk with JVR and it helped him on the ice. what is so hard to understand? Obviously JVR is the one playing but Gordon had a talk with him, and it has helped his game. He has been on a tear, as stated.

Oh really, is the player the one on the ice? I seem to forget. Thanks for this great insight.

Again, I'll ask you how many times do you need to get burnt but this type of response? You don't have a point here other than needing to be advesarial. What is so horrible about stating that a coach can take a player aside and talk to him about his game but ultimately the player has to respond? Tell me what's going to happen when JvR goes cold again, which will inevitably happen? Will the results of the talk have worn off? Is there an expiration date on them? Coaches always talk to players and coach players as individuals. It doesn't always have a positive effect. I'm sure Gordon has talked to a lot of player about a lot of things but we just came off of an 8 game losing streak.

Why have coaches at all, why not just players? They clearly serve no purpose.

What would you point our PP struggles to? inviduals not executing? Not finishing chances? And I agree about Giroux in the new PP set up. I wasn’t a fan of him on that side and prefer his right hand shot on the left side/wall.

One off the skate goal doesnt give me enough of sample sample size to keep it long term. I thought the first pp was looking good with the 5 of them but the others were more choppy like we've been.

Sometimes the player can't get out of his own way and the coach needs to help that along.

Nope, MJL said otherwise. Might as well have been signed, sealed, and delivered from God himself. 2019 Flyers will move on with no coach moving forward, they are no help.

I love how JVR's game has changed. Seems like he was trying to do too much and be an outlet for other players. Gordon sat him down and said "This is what you do best, do that and nothing else", and bam this happens. For those of you that don't think coaching makes a difference....

and that time out.....

- youarewrong

Was thinking about coaching. A coach makes a difference, good example is the islanders.

I think PP 2 looked good with Ghost. I said over the weekend that they should put G on PP 2. Was half joking but Ghost on 2nd unit has potential

At least Simmonds gave his trade value a boost last night.

All kidding aside, it was nice to see JVR finally earning his paycheck and even better to see Hart shake of a slow start to play really well in the latter part of the game and, best of all, Nolan Patrick stepping up with a great game.

I will take a fraction of this explosion night in night out, rather then the droughts followed by a monsoon. I know I need to temper my emotions, I sometimes forget the kid is only 20.

No because I think he'll eventually be back there. I think the 5 forwards is just something to get a new look for now.

Gostisbehere's shot is such a weapon. He'll eventually be back there.

- J35Bacher
A shot is only a weapon when it makes it on net.
He has sooooooooo way tooooooo many shots missing net or being blocked.
