Leafs shouldn’t have as big of a problem signing Kapanen and Johnsson as your implying. Should be able to get them on reasonable 1 or 2 year deals. They don’t have a ton of leverage or big sample sizes of production.

Just because brown and hyman took underpayments doesnt mean that these two guys will. Kapanen and nylander are best buddies, and you cant tell me he wont try to get the most he possibly can as well. Johnsson you might be able to get for 2.5-3 but that's still more than the leafs can afford with Matthew's and marners pending contracts.

Explain to me how you think this is not a good deal for both clubs? Toronto fills a void of a top pair defenseman.

St Louis gets a young scorer in Johnsson, a reasonably priced stay at home defensman in zeitzev, a grade A defensive prospect who can make the jump to the nhl next year and a 1st round pick.

This deal is better than what SJ spent to get Karlsson, and Pietrangelo doesnt have the hardware that Karlsson has!
