Gardiner - 533 nhl games - can look like he has absolutely no hockey sense at times and makes big defensive mistakes

simply put... Dermott has upside ... Gardiner is NEVER going to fix those brain cramps.

One has shown a penchant to never ever learn from his mistakes or play with any urgency on the puck, make decisions in an acceptable time, and stop waiting until a team mate is being closed down before passing the puck to them.

The other has played less than a full season.

People like to complain that the Leafs don’t always dominate play...well look no further than Gardiner the past 7 years. When he’s been on the ice the Leafs have been great. Period.

You take the odd Jake mistakes. It’s the way he plays.

As for Dermott? He’s playing against 3rd and 4th lines and has been ok this year. and is expected to replace Gardiner by some fans on here....

Let me as you. If Gardiner makes all these crazy mistakes why do the Leafs consistently play in the other teams end and score way more goals then let in when he is on the ice in the past 7 seasons?

The Leafs are consistently scoring more, get more shots, get scored on less, playing more with the puck when he is on the ice. You can’t argue with numbers.

how can the Leafs get Doogy Hamilton without giving up the obvious core plus
Kap, Willy, Johnsson, Dermott and 1st

also Prospects id prefer to keep, Bracco, Grundstrom, Sandin and lilygrin

make a package of Gardiner, Zaitsev, Brown, Gauthier, Rosen, Timashov, Brooks, Borgman....whoever else and picks (not 1st)

imagine an extra 20 minutes a game with zaitsev being the guy trying the breakout passes lol. that's life without gardiner.

I would be shocked if Dubas didn’t trade for a replacement that’s cheaper for next year....or sign him.

I like Dermott but he is no where near the level to replace Gardiner and the Leafs can’t afford to have their d worsen next year.

We should have shipped Willie for a good RHD ( if 1 was available ) before we signed him, you're not getting much with those guys you mentioned...unless it's a rental. IMO

Gardiner wont be improving, he is what he is.
Dermott has opportunity to improve. Hasnt even completed a full season.
If you cant see that difference, then sorry

Seeing how the Leafs have played since he has been back, I am glad they didnt

They can still prop up the right side D anyways..just need a bit more creativity and maybe a dumb GM

Z was a horrible signing, i believe dub recognizes that.
