Honestly, if there's a deal to be had with Carolina I think the Leafs should be targeting Faulk rather than Hamilton.

Pesce? Perhaps.

- mjones242

I’d take both those players as well. They are cheaper.

Luc Robitaille once said, “As soon as a GM tells you that, you are as good as gone!”

As a fan I never believe any GM or ownership that says BS like that.

Why isn't he?

I am curious because the stats tell a completely different story.

It's a bit like Jake Garidner. If you look at stats you think that Jake is probably fairly decent, but then when you have to watch him for the 8th consecutive year making the exact same calamities game in game out, at the age of 28, you start to paint a more complete picture of the player

Meh, I disagree with you about Gardiner. That is a whole another story though....

but still, Faulk has been one of the Canes most reliable D men this year. Him and Slaavin have been great at both ends of the ice.

Might as well just start trading now. Wont be able to beat Tampa. So like trade gardiner, hainsey, Marincin... kapanen and reload for next year.

I agree with the trading part, but not ready to write off the season. It does bug me, that the Leafs started their mid-season skid, once Willy signed. I wish that they'd look at a team like Buffalo, who's sliding in the standing and try to make a deal for someone like Rasmus Ristolainen. He plays over 25 minutes a game, good defensively, big body that doesn't mind playing tough and dirty. I'd even give them Willy and Gardiner, since we won't be signing Gardiner next year, so really it's Willy for Ristolainen. Its up to them, if they want to give Gardiner the money. To boot Ristolainen is a right shot. Dermott can move up to the second pairing, in Gardiners spot. I'm sure there'll be some stopgap defenders, once we get closer to the trade deadline.

Buffalo would laugh at that offer. (And I'm not a Risto fan).

100%. They didn't need Nylander and certainly not at 7 million. Could have parlayed him into a top 4 d. Now they are seeing what happens...

Risto is a very good defenseman. He would do well in Toronto, especially with the potent offense you guys got, he could just focus on being defensive.

The Leafs desperately lack overall team grit and a shut down pair of d-men. Against tough teams like the Bruins the lack of the Leafs having quality NHL d-men is very obvious. After Rielly they have a group of 4, 5 and 6 d-men that would be hard pressed to be in the top 4 of most top teams. Unless Dubas makes a trade for 1 or 2 top 4 d-men the Leafs will be hard pressed to do well in the playoffs.

Guess the Jets arent a tough team...hows Laine doing?
