Yeah IMO regardless of opinion on him it’s a no brainer.

He could legitimately solve the 2C/Top 6 wing need by himself.

Leaves you better off with most of your other trade assets still around. Trading for a defensive guy will likely cost half of what risto goes for.

If we are signing under the radar players give me Ryan Dzingel as well.

He's got 33 points in 44 games. not sure he counts as under the radar anymore, he's gunna cash in big time.

Kinda reminds me of frolik, he was an under the radar guy for so long but enough people said that so others started paying attention and he just kept getting better.

Eventually there was enough hype around him that he was no longer a bargain buy, but an overpay.

Go look at the 1st round picks by Pitt when Botts was the AsstGM there

EVERY team has misses in the 1st

- jdfitz77

Every team has misses yes, but we have 4 chances and only really 2 impact players away from being elite. So we only need to go 50%. There is also a chance we move a guy after he’s drafted if we get a coveted player in the 21-24 age range. There is nobody we can trade for imo this year using our first rounders that fit our time line. Even Duchene id wait till July 1st. I’d take my chances on an 18 year old I can have under locks for 10 years then a 25-28 year old player that might only have 2-3 sold years left. How much better would Columbus be rn if they just kept Couterier and Voracek instead of trading for Jeff Carter ? How much better would Toronto be if they didn’t trade for Kessel and selected Seguin and Hamilton ?

Well Toronto wouldn't have Matthews, so you can't look at this that way.

I can't believe you are preaching Columbus keeping their talent in one post and advocating the trade because the kings won in another post. You are an advocate for trading for talent and an advocate for keeping talent. Guess its win win when you ride both sides of the fence.

You are preaching Pittsburgh system for trading for Kessel and now you are against Toronto trading for Kessel but if Toronto won the cup you could have used them as in example in your other post

The Sabres need to hit on a draft pick that will contribute and be cheap for a few years.

This isn’t hard to understand.

Every team has guys like that. We don’t

It doesn’t have to be a 1st rounder but odds are much better.

Brayden Point
Arvidsson
Kyle Connor
DeBrusk
McAvoy

Who is our example of this?

Pilut was a free agent signing. I think the poster was talking about draft

He certainly is a guy, but is he going to be someone who’s considered an impact player?

I think so, not a high end guy but looks like a future impact player (if not already)

I agree with you. All the examples that poster used we have...

We have Dahlin, Eichel, Ullmark(If he keeps progressing) we have those star players. We need to start building with trades and to a lesser extent UFA.

I realize Botts isn't going to come out and tell us what he was doing but it would be nice if he was a little more transparent to the fans.

You got GMTM who was an open book to an extent it hurt the team or Botts who holds all the cards close to the vest. One extreme to the next.

- sabresfan69[/quote

Gmtm was fun but was an idiot and not a good judge of talent.

D*ckhead Darcy was the closed book

Gmjb is not a closed book, like Darcy, listen to some of his interviews. He's just intelligent enough to not give away too much. He also seems to be a very good judge of talent, and isn't afraid to put good scouts around him. Granted, he does seem to have an affinity for swedes and college kids....

2019 Sabres first, Nylander and Moulson (salary) for Couturier. Add Guhle or 2020 Sabres 2nd if necessary. This would be a pretty good team. Good contract, lots of term

He's a selke candidate on a very friendly contract. Imagine what you wanted for ROR in the summer, now double it.

Pittsburgh had their pieces in place. Toronto didn’t have anything when they traded for Kessel. The Kings used trades to solidify their team but they traded two players selected 3rd and 5th overall. You don’t draft 5th overall without going in the toilet last time I checked unless you get extremely lucky and win the new lottery system. So yea tanking works. The Sabres aren’t a trade away from winning the cup so you can whine all you want but we will be drafting three times in the first round this year whether you like it or not.

Couturier has basically turned into Jonathon Toews 2.0

That guy in his prime was essentially not for sale.

Max Domi and a 1st. So 2 firsts, Nylander and a d prospect. That's more than enough. 2019 Sabres 1st and 2020 Sabres 1st. Boom. I'll draw up the paperwork

Imagine if we didn’t make any trades and just drafted one of Matthews, Laine, Pierre Luc Dubois, Matthew Tkchuck, or Clayton Keller instead of trading for ROR.... sigh. But yea let’s trade picks for guys that teams deem tradable. Seems like a good plan. For as many 1st rounders that don’t pan out there is just as many trades that don’t work out.

I’d bet hundreds of dollars that Doug Armstrong would suck Botts dry to get Thompson, his first rounder and 2nd rounder back for ROR.

at any rate, nylander doesn't equal domi.
