Nylander cant be traded till his 3rd year because of the $20 mil upfront pay.
Gardiner needs to be traded for a 1st rounder. Not worth repeating the JvR mistake.
Kapanen might be kept but if a team offer sheets him 4 mil or so, Leafs will sht the bed and only get a 2nd rounder as a return. Trading him might be the thing to do, if he doesnt sign before the deadline.
This has more to do with asset and cap management, little with team performance. Also frees up space for a top 2 Dman if Dubas wants to pull that trigger. - Buggy166
Willie can be traded after July 1st 2019. I dont believe he is going anywhere this season.
And no.
You dont trade gardiner for a 1st. We need him for the playoff run (almost puked a bit)....or unless hes traded for another d man
Matthews started sulking when he was demoted to the 2nd PP unit.
His buddy Melander then told him, "Do what I do: if they aren't going to give you the respect you deserve, stay off the scoresheet!"
So that's what Matthews is doing.
Of course, the other Leafs players have realized this, and are pissed by the selfishness.
The dressing room is divided and toxic.
Morning, fellas. - Atomic Wedgie
Man that the exact conversation my "source" told me that was had. You should trust me on that, I have the same "sources" as Eklund
My "source" also told me the inside scoop on the Bobrovsky story. Apparently, he took pictures of Torts nude in the shower, and posted them inside the Blue Jackets dressing room before practice. Apparently his man parts are equal in size to Donald Trumps hands. A5
... I'm perhaps confused by what's expected. Nylander has never been a D first guy. He rushed the puck. Skated well. Had a couple of decent chances. He was mildly interfered with and didn't fight through it, but if he does, he's likely penalized.
I guess I didn't feel he was not engaged. - Monkeypunk
He's trying, my only criticism is that I think he should have gone to the Marlies for a conditioning stint. I know it seems stupid to put an almost $7m guy in the AHL, but get him in shape before throwing him out there.

That would be nice if the Leafs could get for him but I just don't see it.
He maybe, he's the Leafs own rental player.

Yeah no.
That is not what you do to this team.
Tavares and Marleau didn’t come to this team for Dubas to make his team much worse at TDL. The leafs aren’t at the stage anymore where they trade their UFA’s. People need to get this into their skulls. That’s what a bad team does at this time of year.

Agreed, but I would package Gardner, but I would say the chances of that are extremely remote.

If it brings back an all star D then sure...but that’s unlikely.
What I think is likely is Dubas trades for a D with term and keeps Gardiner as an own rental. That way they Leafs have a D for next year to replace him but also a strong D core for playoffs.

I agree with that. I think getting him back in game shape and hopefully getting him some success would have helped him come back to the Leafs.
As it is, he has not had success and every game that's weighing on him. You hear about it all the time from athletes who sign a big contract - they feel the pressure to live up to it, and when they struggle, that creates additional pressure which adds to the struggles . . . dot, dot, dot.
It's too late now. Now he just needs some success. A game with a goal and an assist. To be rewarded for rushing the puck. Something that plays back into his wheelhouse.

Agreed. Id take Muzzin, Martinez. McQuaid, Bouwmeester, Tanev, Petro, or Gudas on this team.

If there's a good return, probably yes. - annoyed
Kadri's had terrible shooting percentage (PDO) before, then bounced back and scored a ton. He's a cheap, effective 3rd line center for us; trading him would be silly.
