I think his stat line in the CHL would be enough for people to appreciate him more.
- Glak18

I appreciate him but also acknowledge that he needs more to the defensive side of the game. Some of that is purely he will get beat physically in the NHL. And he makes "juniors" plays. He may never be g defensively and wont be initially. Doesnt mean he cant become that strong defensively though eventually. He has the hockey iq to get much much better.

He made a poor argument I think. Mainly based on jack Hughes is not going to ride in on his white horse and save the team and be a superstar next year.

I see nothing wrong with fans that hope that the team positions themselves for the best talent in the draft. It’s just more fun than rooting for weise to hit double digit goals in April, sorry.

But the Flyers do things the right way. Teams like the Penguins don’t. That’s why there is an asterisk next to their last three cup wins.

I know for me it feels much more satisfying as a fan when the team does things the right way led by smart and efficient hockey people.

Exactly. And this isn't a particularly deep draft and were not exactly a premier destination for free agents. This draft especially a high pick is our best bet to better our NHL roster. Hughes skating places him immediately into the NHL and he will put up some points. He may play no d. May turn the puck over. But he will help this team.
- Tfaehner

So in other words he will need to develop the rest of his game in the ahl if the Flyers draft him?

You probably aren't wrong.

I don't know if Jack Hughes is gonna be a franchise guy or not, but I do think there is a bit of Canadian bias from some hockey writers who write about amateur/junior/Euro prospects.

He would not be ahl eligible and there is absolutely no reason for him to play in juniors. He would develop at the NHL level. His skating is probably top 3 in the league from the second he steps on the ice.

Giroux was far from the most defensive deft player at a young age. Speaking of someone who is physically immature for the NHL, but is going purely on offensive skills...Elias Pettersson.

Again Hughes has his weaknesses, but the same things have been said about many before him...Stamkos, Marner, Kane, plus many more. The complaints I hear about Hughes (size, defense) are just nitpicking.

We are not talking about a good skater, we are talking about one of the best skaters to ever get drafted...let that sink in I'm talking about McDavid level skating, depending on the scout some have said better without the top speed. I would take Dale Weise with Hughes skating ability. Then you add in his amazingly quick and accurate shot, high IQ and passing.

If Patrick Kane was the number 1 prospect, would you draft him?

Now if Patrick Kane skated like McDavid, would you draft him then?

I don't care about his defensive game or size at this point or if he picked his nose and ate boogers, welcome to Philly Jack

I get it. I do. I'm taking him #1 100 out of 100 times. And I can see what he can become. But I'm not expecting that year 1 and dont want the fan base to get juiced up for him to be the next McDavid year 1. I love his skating. I know he will contribute offensively. You are getting worked up about the flaws I see on his day 1 entry into the NHL. I think whole heartedly he has the ability to improve on those and become elite in every facet. But hes not there yet. His skating is. And he will put up points. He doesnt have the shot imo that kane has. I think he will have less goals but more assists than kane has. Again I take him #1 and run. If he doesnt come here than I hope like hell he goes west.

Agree 100% but my expectations for him I feel are reasonable, I think his first year he can be a 50 point scorer, I really do. Kid is only 17 and there is still a long ways to go before the draft, but there has to be much more than a late season rise like Nico for me not to take him.

Nobody in this draft has his ceiling. I take him 100/100. I have more debate at 2. Kakko right now. Who I like a lot. But I think he would be the one to get caught. Hard to tell how teams have them rated. Like the drouin year and the dubois. Montreal did thst with their guy as well. Kakko playing vs grown men gives him the edge vs the other 3 in my book. I personally like podkolzin at 3. He could go as low as 7 though depending on who is drafting.

Yeah I really love Kakko the more I see of him and Podkolzin is growing on me, but the Russian factor scares me. Past those guys I would probably lean towards Byram based on his skating alone.
