Yours is just a (frank)in negative attitude toward the team. Pure and simple. Leaf Hater JMO.

Not a Leafs hater at all. I've been to over 200 Leafs games in my life. I've seen them win a Stanley Cup and have attended every Leafs/Habs matches live over a 10 year period in the 90's and 2000's. I was there when they played at the Corel Centre for almost every game when the defeated the Sens four straight times in the playoffs. As well as attended the last two playoff rounds when they played the Habs in the late 1970's.

I really feel bad for the young fans of today that haven't seen them win. I can remember when the highest ticket prices in the early 1990's was $25.00. Greys were $5.00. How much now? Where is the playoff success that should follow overpriced regular season tickets? The absurdity of no playoff victories since the early 2000's and poor player management has made me cynical and until they win a round or two, I'm not buying the hype. It's pretty ridiculous that you can get a ticket to see the Leafs play in Carolina or Florida for $15.00 is just wrong. People can actually fly to these locations, see the game and fly home, then witness a game at the ACC/Scotiabank Place. This is the critical year....either fix the issues or continue to stay the course of obscurity in the playoffs.

Okay, once again for the slow folks - you do not get into "cap hell" by paying good players what they are worth - that gets you a good team who are at the cap limit. You get into cap hell by overpaying replaceable bottom line/pair guys, and by paying for past performance. On the Leafs, that means Zaitsev, Marleau, and to a lesser extent Brown. Those are the guys you move before Willie, *unless* you get back a top pairing D, in which case you won't be saving money.
- lumlums

Every player must be paid 1 million.

The Leafs must dominate every game for every minute

The Leafs are the only team in the NHL with a weakness. In a cap world this us unacceptable.

Nylander

Burke

Phaneuf

No.

Nylander's selfish attitude, lackadaisical play, lack of meaningful contributions and crushing salary cap hit makes Nylander expendable.

Did you watch the last game? Until they got desperate in the third, the Leafs shortened their passes, used their speed, and started to play with a bit more flexibility. Their crappy D contained Nashville pretty well, and owned most of the play in the first 2 periods.

The Leafs are literally into their third year since drafting Matthews. Sitting here and comparing their team structure to established teams like Nashville, Tampa, and Boston is unfair. Those teams have learned and earned where they are. The Leafs are still learning and have earned nothing yet.

But to be critical of this young and emerging team that is still on the upswing is short-sighted if you're a fan. Enjoy this ride, it's the best one they've given us since 1975 - 1979.

- Monkeypunk

Actually those early 2000's teams were quite good. The Robert/Corson/Tucker/Kaberle/Sundin/McCabe/ teams were built for the playoffs. Grit and determination.

Its not sad at all. When more people want to buy things it will cost more.

More people want to live in Toronto than North Bay. Is it better in the city? That is completely up to the individual. However the facts say way more people want to live in Toronto. Probably for the job opportunities...

If you want to cheer for a team that no one cares about and pay cheap tickets just cheer for TFC. Cheap tickets just like you wanted. I will stick to the Leafs.

All good buddy.....I understand we have a differing opinion. The bottom line, I was 9 when they last won the Cup and I had hoped to see them win again. It gets discouraging watching decades roll by with no playoff success.

Look. I get it. Everyone's mad about Willy.

His $7m cap hit is about 250k more than he deserved based on market comparables. The fans wanted a sweetheart deal out of him and they didn't get it. It's a hell of lot better cap-wise than the Draisaitl deal.

If you want to be mad about the cap situation, look at Lou and signing a 38 year old guy to a 3 year 6.5m deal. Great leadership. Good guy. Good pro. That extra year is a massive problem.

Nylander is paid fairly.

His current results suck. His current performance does not, actually suck. He's been one of the better scoring chance generating players.

Him not successfully blocking a point shot is not why the team that scored 0 goals lost to Nashville.

- Monkeypunk

Willie was 70th in the league in points last year.
So imo, hes overpaid by more that 250gs.

Regular season tickets are underpriced, not overpriced.

I can sell any ticket I have for a profit. Saturday night games for a quite hefty profit.

Underpriced.

Not overpriced.

- PrinceLH

If the point you were trying to make is that people can fly to another arena and see a game for cheaper than watching one at the ACC, you are completely wrong.

For a weekday game, you can get a ticket from a scalper or off of Ticketmaster for $150.

Suggesting that you can fly somewhere (not even factoring in a night at a hotel) for less is silly.

And how is it the Leafs' fault that Carolina and Florida have done a piss-poor job of marketing their games? Who are you mad at here?

They were.

As a long-time fan, though, while I loved the Pat Quinn runs in 99 and 02, and the general calibre of the team - we bought and assembled that team. We have largely grown this one.

It doesn't make me wonder.

They sellout every single game. Zero problems. It would be a different story if they couldn't sell out.

Don't be mad at someone for being successful. The consumer doesn't have to pay the price if they don't want to.

It's actually not Capitalism. When you have a salary cap and equalization payments to weaker markets, it's supply management. Something like the Canadian government does with Wheat, Milk, etc.

Salary cap would be labour controls.

Equalization payments would be the right of the parent company to redistribute profits amongst its franchisees.

Neither have a lick to do with supply management.

Salary cap is actually a dream scenario for business - not sure why you would be opposed to it.

Edit: I suppose you could make the argument that equalization payments is a form of supply management, as the league is restricting the number of franchises, and therefore tickets. It's a weird argument because equalization actually increases ticket supply, but once again, I guess some would see it as a valid argument.
