Since the Trade

Petterson - 6 points +11
Sprong - 6 points -4

- RoloTahmasee

He's solid. He fits the system with his good skating. He actually evens out JJ a bit. 6 points from a Dmen is much more impressive than a winger. He's doing this all at only 22 years old.

Pens won the trade*

Didn’t JO have a nice little point streak when he was first brought in?

Again, I don’t want to knock Pettersson. He’s been stout. I’m just very worried about what will happen this offseason if Rutherford and Sullivan fall too much in love with him. Can’t keep giving bottom pairing defenseman north of 2 million.

If he can make a pairing with JJ look acceptable, he is a mid pairing Dman in my book.

He just can't keep a stable of these guys. One is fine, three is no bueno. I'd be more than happy if he moved JO, JJ, resigned Riikola a two-way contract and brought in a legit third pairing RD.

If he does keep Pettersson though, he needs to make him earn his contract. I've become a big fan of his, but I wouldn't do more than $1M/year at a two year contract and I think that would be a fair bridge deal.

I've brought up TVR before and think he'd be the ideal 3rd pairing RD and probably a good fit with Pettersson. This is all wishful thinking though.

I was liking his game lately. Hopefully it doesn't take him as long to get back into game shape this time around

I'm not ok with ZAR being injured. He's been playing good. ZAR > Wilson

Do I think this is a crippling blow? No, but I like him in the bottom 6 and on PK.

I've made it pretty clear I'm not the biggest ZAR fan, but yes he's been playing well, however, IMO he won't be missed on the 4th line. I think Wilson was a better fit there.

Guess we'll agree to disagree. Back when you were majorly hating on him (3 or 4 weeks ago) I disagreed as well. Not that there's a huge drop off in his play but I think ZAR is better than anyone scratched or that can be called up.

Just read Tanner's blog. Schmaltz is out and while AZ's season was already pretty much done, now it's definitely done.

I've brought his name up before, but I think the Pens should target Panik. I know I've said if the Pens go for a forward it should be a major upgrade, but I think Panik's game is a very good fit for the Pens.

For TVR? Ideally a good young forward or a draft pick.

Honestly probably looking more to move Faulk or Hamilton though.

We need bigger help up front, and Adam Fox says he'll sign if they have a spot open for him, so the Canes need to trade a RHD anyway, and if they're doing that, they might as well trade the guy that'll get us the best forward possible.

Here is the problem with low balling Pettersson... arbitration. I like to believe that all GMs want to avoid that hearing like the plague. And right now Pettersson is doing with Cole and JO did in their first seasons here. Performing far better than he did at his prior team and with a subpar partner. They could award him over 3 mil for one year, and then he has the ass about it and we get no chance to keep him afterwards.

It's really hard to not look at that and think "2 mil or so for three years is a steal for a budding mid pairing Dman".

It's probably going to unfairly take too much for me to come around on him, but I'll be happy to be wrong.

I don't think he excels in a 4th line role; he seems to go flat there, but shines next to Sid or Geno which is clearly no shocker. I've said this before, if a player can excel next to Sid or Geno I don't care if they fail everywhere else in the lineup because not every player can slot next to them and keep up.

Contrary to popular belief you can't just put any player with Sid and Geno, and make them good players. It takes a certain type of player who knows instinctively how to play with them.

However, the fact he's pretty mediocre in a bottom-six role and there's clearly better options in the top-six on this team I feel he has no real place. Again, I'd be happy to be wrong.

TVR would be a real good fit for the Penguins but honestly I don't know what the Pens have that would be fair value that Carolina would actually want.

We've got like 2 dozen 4th line NHLers.

Nah.

We've already got Greg McKegg in the lineup. (4 points in 3 games!!!???)
