For all the poop he got last year from the fans and from Housley (some of it deserved, no doubt)- Benoit Pouliot was a solid FA add at $1m last year. 13 goals, and he never sniffed the top 6. There was nothing really done in that vein this year.

Edit: Pilut, so well done there

- jcragcrumple

There are examples of smaller steals we've had (Pilut/E-Rod (he is a pretty decent college FA signing), even trades that have worked out well (Skinner), but the big signings we've made recently have all been poop.

I know, but for $1m? How many wingers are we gonna have who score 13 this year?

Reinhart
Skinner

Maybe Pominville, Sheary, Okposo. Cheap depth scoring options are nice

I've been told salary doesn't matter.

Also are more expensive.

The question isn't impact, the question is production vs cost. Pouliot wasn't the best, but he at least supplied enough scoring to warrant his contract.

Removing the obvious - Eichel and Dahlin - our drafting (in general) has been lousy over the past 10 years. Same with our trades (except Skinner) and our Free Agent signings (Hutton looking good so far). But we still have one of the best logos and sweaters in the league!

I love and have always loved our uni's, Classic and should never be messed with again.. I am also partial to other uni's that look sort of like ours, Edmonton & Islanders...

I think Botts has done better than the previous regime. That's all I'll say.

Edit: What would GMTM have given up to get Skinner? Yikes.

This is all that matters as well. Different GM, different scouts, different time. Last 10 years is out the window now. We can only critique our past two drafts and even then Botts had to rely on prior administration for his first draft.

Given his trades, I'm willing to give him time. Skinner is probably the biggest trade steal we've had since Drury or Briere.

...and I like Thompson and the 1st for RoR *hides*

Until this first rounder is drafted and developed I don't think its fair to critique the trade either. I like Thompson and the fact we got added cap space however.

The other key is to get your GM buddies super drunk at a strip club near the airport and find out what they really think about 2016 #18 OA pick Jurgen Glimsman

Agreed. I don't think we can properly evaluate this trade for another 3 to 4 years. We need to see what we got with TNT and the two draft picks. Berglund quitting on the team (and the resulting freed up cap space) just made the trade that much better for Botts IMO. Also, when ROR's play starts to decline in the next 3-years, we will all be thankful not to have the $7.5 million on the books.

Bingo. People love having recency bias though and assess the trade over 40 some odd games. Time will tell. ROR is doing well in St.Louis this year but the trade was always about the future.

That's fair.

On the outside, it's tough to get 1st rounders. I give Botts a lot of credit for getting one there and still not giving one up for Skinner.

You're right though, if we draft Grigorenko, that trade becomes a massive disappointment.

Currently I think we won the trade as well. I also believe in Botts' scouting department but time will tell haha.

One way or another, some conditioning games were in order.

It's also becoming clear that they don't want to give Ellie back to Dallas.

- Lunaion

What has Elie done as a Sabre to make it so anybody would care?
