They are not buying out Okposo. You want to eat whatever cap hit that is for 8 more years? Eff that.

Good point:

Compliance buyout after future work stoppage
Long term ir - allergic to his Jersey
Trade a good pick with him to a bottom feeder.

Or the Sabres just keep him.
Which is getting more difficult by the game

I see a guy (at least I hope I do), who would retire before becoming the next Moulson.

I think he plays 1 more year before being bought out, or he gets traded with 2-3m retained. The buyout numbers improve to a somewhat more palatable number. If they wait til 2020 the cap hits would be

4m
5m
3m
1m
1m

Still awful. Maybe someone would trade for him if we retained $3m. Still doubtful

Damned if you do, damned if you don't as far as I'm concerned.

2020 it isn't a total mess, but still, that's a lot of cheddar for zilch. I think they are giving him these opportunities to try to get him back going...I'm sure Botts called around and I wouldn't be surprised to hear the price to move him is astronomical.

I could see a deal where Okposo goes with $3m retained for a player making $3m a year for 2 more years. So the Sabres would still be paying (effectively) 6 mil for that new player, but for a shorter term. Plus a mid pick or prospect from the sabres
