How do emergency call-ups from Junior work? Is Dipietro a potential solution for the Comets for a few games?

If he is able to be called up on a temporary basis, does this possibly burn a year off his ELC, change his expansion draft exemption status, etc.?

An emergency callup to the AHL from Junior I don't think has ever happened. Someone will sign out of the ECHL or possibly get a loaner from another AHL team.

The standard protocol for emergency callups are done on an ATO/PTO contract unless they're already signed to an ELC.

I think Dipietro is but as long as he stayed below the GP threshold for goalies (which is different than the 9 or 10 for players) his contract would toll.

Thanks Carol. All signs are EP's injury is not serious. A little rest I assume and he'll be good to go. I was hoping to see him lighting up Hutch but I guess we'll have to watch Goldy tear the Leafs down.

I was just thinking they might want to reward Dipietro for his progress by giving him a taste of the next step. Sort of a vote of confidence in spite of the early elimination from the WJC's. His junior team probably has a contingency in place for at least the next week or so anyway, so it's convenient timing from that perspective.

I just wasn't sure about the contract restrictions preventing this. It seems more likely he could be called up to the NHL rather than the AHL on an emergency basis. The expansion draft exemption implications are another issue that might make it impractical.
