Another great write up Michael

Funny story:

My cousin and I met bougner before a game about 25 years ago.

I asked him what he thought about RJ calling him the "boogie man"

His quick retort was " I think it's gonna stick"

It took me a few seconds to catch on.....

I was at the game last night, I thought for sure someone on the sabres was going to go after Pysyk, that kid was hitting everyone up high after the whistle, went after Skinner and Dahlin a couple times

Nice post

Don’t get me wrong...
i love what Skinner brings to the table as a goal scorer
And we desperately needed that
So i definitely want to keep him

I just think we gotta prepare for him to regress a little
So i don’t wanna have to overpay him too much

I could live with 8.5per
But if he drops back down to 35ish goals & 20ish assists...
that’s a lot of salary for near 60pts

I think we almost have to sign him though
Can’t even imagine what our offense looks like this year without him

- jdfitz77

Yea I go 8x8 personally. I really like the player though and if $8.5M is what it takes to keep him then so be it but he can become the next Okposo in the last 2 years of that deal.

While I see what you're saying, and it is a concern. I don't think it would be quite that dramatic for Skinner. His style of play is a completely different animal compared to Okposo's. And generally the style Skinner plays tends to have less of a drop off.

I think Skinner will be a great player into his mid-thirties but what we are seeing right now is his peak and we are still debating on if he’ll be worth that kind of money. Think if it like Marleau right now in Toronto. Great vet guy, can still score, but not worth the $6.25M a year paycheck yet is a guy that has a spot in the top 6 there and still produces.

As a small aside last night they showed Josh Allen at the game (sporting a Tre white goalie sweater and a chicken wing on his hat...LOL) , the place went wild with Applause....

If an 8 year deal helps land the Sabres a Cup in years 2-5, I can stomach the problem that will be the albatross at age 35. It's the cost of doing business, but also about finding the right investment. Skinner might be that. I have much more faith in that than I ever did with Pominville or Okposo when their deals were signed.
- buffalofan19

I just worry about the concussion history and the fact that he may very well not be the same player even 5 years from now.

Long term contracts seem to be anchors more often than not. I really like Skinner, but I don't see him as some top 25 player in the league that we absolutely can't lose. If he is being greedy, I'd have no issue trading him for a big return and trying to sign a Panarin or a Stone, even Eberle. The former because he is a top50 player and the latters as less expensive and shorter term options.

Agreed but we still have to sign McCabe and Ullmark. Larsson or Girgs will be a casualty. We probably can't keep them both unless they take the same pay.
Pommer $ falls off and that is about it. Okposo will always be the issue until that is resolved. Hopefully Seattle will take him if we offer a first round pick with him and his money.
This team needs to mature (stick with the process). Playoffs are great but the Cup is the goal. TB is set and TOR has cap greater cap issues with assets than anyone.

Still excited about the turn around but not many people would have thought that Buffalo would be solidly or consistently in a playoff spot at 41 games. I figured we would be close, but not in for this long. Long season to go and they should be a solid 7 or 8 seed. Hopefully 7 so they play the Caps and have a shot.

I didn't imagine Tyler Ennis's game falling off a cliff either. It does happen to those types of players as well. I'd be much happier with a 6 year deal, even though it knocks the price up a notch.

he's having a ball...

if I recall correctly, early in the season I thought I saw, via 89 or homie (or both) that the range was $8-9M with the sabres on the low end...I can't see him or the sabres fussing over $550k if they met half-way

8.5/8.75 is where I see it coming in at.

He’s on pace for about 250 shots this season
No one gets to 500 shots
No one even gets to 400

300 would even be a reach
That would be his career high
But Skinner’s shooting% isn’t sustainable
His previous best was 14.4% as a rookie
Last year, he was 8.7%

So I’m thinking 15% (give or take) is a pretty reasonable expectation moving forward

That would mean somewhere in the range of 35-40 goals instead of the 50+ he’s probably gonna get this year

So if it’s around 35goals or so,
are we still happy with Skinner at 8.5mil per?

- jdfitz77

I believe Phil Espositio had 556 shots in the 1970-71 season.

Attainable. He's come close, 281, 277 the last 2 years only averaging about 17 minutes. He's on pace for about 250 this year, but I think as he gets more comfortable he can increase his volume.

Jack was at that pace the last 2 years.

Ovechkin, the biggest volume shooter there is has 3 400 shot seasons including one of 528, he also has seasons of 392, 386(78GP), 395(81GP), 398(79GP) and was on pace for 375 in 12-13. So he probably would've gotten another 2 400 shot years if he played all the games.

Erod is 25 years old
Prime of his career.

14 career nhl goals
Couple tough defensive plays yesterday.

Erod brings speed
Very little else.
Yesterday some faceoff wins

- Boss34

He's a 4C that doesn't look totally out of place like Larsson or Girgensons would in a spot start up the lineup. And he's dirt cheap. That's a huge win any way you cut it.
