Do you attribute this to dahlins consistency or coincidence? - Boss34
Not a coincidence imo. As goes Dahlin, so go the Sabres |

He's a 2nd line center playing at a 74 point pace
I think the Sabres would love a guy like him
He's 25 years old, signed for 2 more seasons, and has a $6 million cap hit per year
Risto and Thompson aren't going anywhere
McCabe on the other hand I would move for a player like RNH. - Stripes77
I wouldn't be so sure. Maybe not this year but I feel like he is one of the only players with value that can improve this team.
Dahlin is going to be our #1. Period. And since the win streak Risto's play is declining. His defensive results are just dreadful for a top pairing player |

He could still be improving, yes, but he has never had more than 24 goals and never broken 60 points. If this is a new normal, than yes, but not based on his past production prior to half the season this year. |

I'm pretty sure that you could comprise similar stats for a lot of guys showing better stats when we win vs. when we lose. That's kinda how it works. - adambuffalo
For sure, but it shows what an impact he has when he's on his game. The sabres have already come to rely on him. 15 points in 22 wins shows me that he's an integral part of their success (obvious point, I know) at such a young age. It's cool |

There has been a lot of defense pairing juggling
I think Risto and Pilut are the long term answer for the 2nd pairing

Injuries have slowed him down a ton over his career
He was at a 64 point pace last year
I think he is a 60-70 point player
On the second line I would take that all day everyday |

I don't disagree, but in terms of a trade, if you are getting a player who can be a core guy, while Risto settles into a role on a 2nd pair, I think it's worth considering.
Dahlin is going to be our everything on the blue line, and Risto IMO, is going to be a 19-20 minute 25-35 point guy in 1-2 years. Which is fine, but if a GM thinks he's a #1 still...... |

he was also on bad teams the entire time and never really played with mcdavid so never got that "bump"
he has a very under rated defensive game
very good play maker
decent on the pk
can easily go up a line if jack got hurt
IMO everything we thought we were getting with RoR

IMO his perceived value around the league doesnt outweigh his value to this team. 40-50pt right shooting dman with a 5.4 cap hit for the next 4 years. The same amount of time this team should be looking to win it all. |

You get a good read on Risto early in every game. Against the best competition, he usually plays his best. Unfortunately, against lesser competition, he plays down to their level. He can stand up OV one night, and get smoked by an anonymous 4th liner the next night.
I don't hate him, but he's a guy who holds significant trade value. An off-season move wouldn't completely shock me either.

I'm fine with trading Risto, but it needs to be as part of a deal for a better player than RNH who is also signed for longer than 2 years. |

See IMO it's the exact opposite. His results here say we are better defensively with him off the ice, but the alternatives in the past have been bad.

He is still very young for a defenseman though on a good contract for 3 more years. Also, our depth at RD is thin. Bogo has been playing very good, but can we count on him not getting injured? He will be a UFA at the end of next season too.
If someone wants to trade for Risto of course you listen, but for me the offer would have to blow me away to even consider it. |

Brandon Pirri puts up 9 points in 7 games for vegas, and his reward is getting sent back to the ahl - homiedclown
He has to be the most polarizing player I’ve ever seen. He produces everywhere he does yet is on his 6th team I believe in the past few seasons. |

Botts did a fantastic job in the last two drafts. The '17 draft might go down as one of the best by a Buffalo GM in 20+ years. Mitts, Davidsson, 6K, Lakksonen, Bryson and Weissbach. Weissbach actually had a solid year as a freshman last year at Wisconsin and has 11 points in 9 games so far this year. Bryson is one of the best dmen in Hockey East and is having another great year at Providence, 14 points in 19 games. He needs to be signed this year.
I follow the draft pretty closely and I didn't see Lakksonen till the 4th or even 5th rd. Great pick. - mhp
Hence why I’ve been defending us moving any of the first rounders. Just have some patience. Even if it means missing the playoffs this year, we are slowly building a roster like Tampa’s.

His defensive game leaves alot to be desired for sure, and its been more noticeable with the arrival of dahlin.
Unless his outside value is worth something like the hall trade, i dont see it happening. Would you rather have larsson or risto? |

There is poop flying around on Twitter that we have inquired on Pietrangelo and have some interest in Duchene although I think it would be in FA and not through trade. It’s most likely false but interesting nonetheless. |
