you missed the part a page or so back where the LA dude indicated that Liljegren was poopty... so I'm guessing Unholydorker figured that was good enough reason to just toss him on the heap

- BorjeFan4Ever

I've read many reports that Sandin has surpassed Liljegren on the depth chart.

When you factor in that we can only protect 3 D in the 2021 draft, and Liljegren probably won't be in the NHL for at least another year, trading him for a stud defenceman now might not be such a crazy idea.

It’s trolling if you keep repeating the same poop for the sole purpose of causing people to react so you can argue. Every. Single. Day.

If that’s their main purpose sure. But if the topic keeps arising why shouldn’t they keep their same opinion. They won’t change.

It happens on every blog not just TOR.

I think troll is thrown around way too much on this site. Most people who call people trolls on HB say it because they disagree with the other person.

Example. Trolling would be that NYI guy coming on here cause he’s pissed off Tavares left. And causing a scene.

Example 2 (not trolling). People making arguments on a certain topic. In this case, why TOR needs pietrangelo/Parayko type player. It’s not trolling because someone disagrees with someone else.

Sorry, are you trying to suggest that UG is not a troll?!

Oh, it changes. Then he’ll act as if he never said those things.

*cough* Tavares won’t improve the Leafs because he didn’t outscore both JVR and Bozak last year. *cough*

As long as neither he nor Sandin suit up for the Leafs this year, we don't need to protect either

And the factor that Pietrangelo grew up playing with Tavares and the likelihood of re-signing him is higher than usual. And the factor that Marleau may retire this year and even if he doesn't, that money would go perfectly towards re-signing Pietrangelo.

The real causality would be Hainsey / Gardiner and if they traded Gardiner at the deadline, they could recover half of the assets used to acquire Pietrangelo and promote Dermott.

They aren't trading Gardiner at the deadline, period.

I’m just saying. In general the term gets thrown around way to much because someone doesn’t agree with someone else.

Meh.. it's too early to tell if Sandin is more of an asset than Liljegren (and don't forget Sandin is a LHD). Also, deals can be made to protect prospects that may be exposed. Also also, who says Lil will even be the most coveted unexposed piece the Leafs may have in 2021 (*ahem* Nylander)?

I'm also sure there may be some creative ways to circumvent the expansion draft we haven't thought of (e.g. 1 year contracts).

Nahh... unless you're landing Parayko I'd keep our 1st and Liljegren and take a run at signing Petro when he's UFA.

Fair enough, in this case it's not being casually thrown around - at least, not intentionally by moi.

Honestly, if I'm Dubas I'm giving Seattle a pick or lower prospect to take Zaitsev. Assuming no major F acquisitions you'd protect JT/AM/MM/WN/AJ/KK/NK and not lose too much sleep - worst case you'd lose a guy like Brown or Hyman assuming they're re-signed. Most of the higher prospects we have won't be exposed, so no worries there.

I don't watch enough (any!) Blues hockey to know if we should trade for Piwterangelo or Parayako. I'll leave that evaluation to Dubas.

I'm just saying that we really could use a RHD stud right now, and giving up Liljegren - a guy who we potentially could only get two years of service from, never on 1st pairing - doesn't seem like too high a price.

We have never been this close in my lifetime. It might be time for a bold move.

I'd say wait until the off-season before making such a bold move. Let's see where the Marleau situation goes (I think he waives his NMC after the Leafs pay his signing bonus).

The Leafs have never been so close but the window is wide open for the next 5-7 years (assuming we sign Matthews/Marner).

This!

Seattle will need to hit the cap floor and Zaitsev may be somewhat attractive for them to do that (and he'll only have another 3 years).
