Personally, I expected more from him. I don't dislike him but his on ice performance wasn't up to par. There were too many games early this season where his mistakes resulted in goals against the team. Some of it was probably bad luck and adjustment to a new team, but he just got passed over by better options in the lineup. Maybe he will fit in with Hitch in Edmonton.

Just to add more. Here is some info on Manning from TSN.

"Manning has been outscored 26 to nine (-2.8 goals per-60 minutes) this season in Chicago, which is the worst number for any defender in the league and the second-worst for any positional player, decimal points behind Ottawa’s."

Q did an amazing job of amassing talent in the 10 years he was here to win 3 cups along with 2 other conference finals.

Too bad his Manning and Kunitz signings didnt pan out, but I'll take all the other talent he brought in...since it was all his call.

He clearly was distraught about having to move Hjarllmarsson at that time, but he left the Hawks with Murphy, so hopefully that works for the Hawks going forward.

- PatShart

Notice when Q left Kunitz did not play much. How many signings or trades that Stan made q benched Daley Flieschman Wiess ect. Stan and Q did not see eye to eye on staff but hopefully Colliton and Stan work well.

For those of you who want Frolik back...maybe he becomes available?

Allan Walsh
@walsha
Many people in Calgary have been reaching out asking why Michael Frolik is a healthy scratch. Keeping one of the teams most efficient and versatile forwards in the stands marginalizes and devalues a great team player. Head coach’s attempt to run a good player out of town?

Would love to have him back but not at his current $4M+ salary.

Easy to blame Q and I'm sure he nodded some approval when the Manning signing happened.

But a GM with his finger on the pulse of his organization has to know that Forsling is better than Manning; Dahlstrom could potentially fill the position internally and that he had already signed a refugee boatload of Dmen who were intended to help.

So what was going thru Stan's mind - oh I will sign Manning to make Joel happy because he is still pissed at me for trading Hammer?

Stan just bought some time from the executioner with this trade. If he doesnt do something real good for the long term at the TDL he should meet the same fate as Q.

Just curious, like what? Do you have anything in particular in mind?

Yes and the same article makes references to the poor asset management by both Edmonton and Florida for those who still pine for Dale Tallon.
On another note, what is it with these sports writers still referring to the Hawks' "Cap hell"? Maybe they need to be directed to the Cap Friendly site?

I say it all the time...the biggest mistake the Panthers made was firing Gallant and replacing him with a 'yes man' analytics stooge. GG had that team moving in the right direction and playing their best hockey.

He got everything out of those guys and had them believing they could win - and they were. When they fired him, it was an instant tailspin.

Toronto and Winnipeg are Cup contenders this year; I want Stan to rape either or both of them for a similar or higher price than what he paid Arizona and Philly when he was going for it.

If they decide to move Duncan Keith I want players like Jack Roslovic or Rasmus Sandin or Timothy Lilgegren plus #1 picks back in return. I want to dump Rutta for a #2 or 3 round pick to Montreal or Boston.

(My wife says its Ok for a guy to dream).

Well said . Stan should remember how badly he got taken when he was reading up for all those runs. He should fleece the cap outta anyone and not retain any salary.

Frolik is the kind of player a team should acquire for a Cup run. Even if Calgary retained half, I don't think he's a fit for the "remodel."

Saw this yesterday. Walsh is not shy about taking to Twitter.

Frolik could really help a playoff team (which Calgary is) so I'm not sure what's going on there.

When you have Cap space as the Hawks currently do (which translates to a lot at the TDL), there is nothing wrong with retaining salary on expiring contracts. It actually increases the value of the player moving to a Cap strapped team.

Agree with you. Walsh definitely one of those outspoken guys who will stand up for his client publicly.

I guess my question is, would you take Frolik in trade if AA was part of the deal going the other way?

Yes, but only because Frolik's deal expires a year earlier than Anisimov's. However, with all things equal, Anisimov is the better player in my opinion.

I'm not buying into the belief that Manning and Kunitz were only acquired "because of Q".

It's the history revision working overtime. Many lay winning at Stans feet, giving him credit for the couple good deals that went well, but then somehow absolving him of responsibility when deals go bad. It's ridiculous to see the arguments. The fact is Bowman has made some good moves (and YES, this one looks like an example of that), but he's also made some horrible moves, many more than good since around 2015.

That said, I think the move for Strome is on balance looking like a move that at least is not a "loss" and I'd give the edge to stan because how it helps the Hawks down the middle. This move, while it may not draw any way was a good one if for no other reason than he dumped salary and actually picked up a 24 year old energy winger. Drake is probably a lottery ticket, but the Hawks gave up literally nothing.

So while Stan had a terrible run of some mind boggling insane trades, it does appear he's make clearer-headed moves these days. So WHILE I am still not a believer in this GM, how he has managed this crappy season so far has been solid, under the radar work, nothing reactionary or stupid.

I suppose but you've certainly lowered the bar over the past few years. That said, Strome and now this move show that maybe you've figured something out. Keep it up Stanley.

Justin Happy New Year, Thanks for some insight on these 2 new hawks players.

How does can fit into Chicago's long term plan and when J oki comes back who gets moved or benched ? Chicago has way to many defenseman and I just feel that Keith and Seabrook are eating cap and playing time from these kids ?

Any other rumors you are aware of ?

- Taylorst1

Once Jokiharju returns, I would roll with:

Keith - Jokiharju
Dahlstrom - Murphy
Gustafsson - Seabrook/Forsling

Those top 4 are as close as you're going to get to a top 4 with the current blueline personnel.

Dahlstrom and Murphy are emerging as a pair with shutdown potential. Love that they use their size and play within their means. I love even more that Murphy has regained confidence to lay the lumber and play with a mean streak.

As Jokiharju gets more experience and confidence and as Keith starts to realize he must evolve from an elite rover to an all-around defender who should start playing more with a defense-first mentality, the Hawks could have another solid pair that can shut down the other team.

Give Gustafsson 3rd line ES minutes but as much PP time as he can take on and minutes in key offensive situations. Then rotate Seabrook and Forsling depending on whether the opponent will bring a heavy style of play or a speed game.

Does that mean there will be a call up until Joki is back? Or is Brandon Davidson healthy enough to be activated? I'd just think we aren't gonna have only 6 d on the roster.

I'd pass on Pirri as he doesn't really play well without the puck. He has had an odd trajectory from college to AHL to NHL where he started as a playmaker with high assist totals to now being more of a goal scorer. In his first full season, he had a Cy Young season with the Panthers going 22-2 for 24 points. His goal totals eclipse his assist totals by a wide margin.

The biggest problem I see for the Blackhawks as sellers at the trade deadline is what do we have to sell?

We really don’t have any typical trade deadline assets that would be coveted.
