Hey bud,

I'm only on here when I'm mad like all the others. ;-)

Just home from the WC. Arrrgghhh..

I said my seabs piece last page.

Dahlstrom shy ed away from the puck/block 2 maybe 3 times.

Murphy out of position not taking the man in front cost us a goal. ?es he skated away.

Then you should be here a lot! Haha

That's still awesome you got to go, regardless of the outcome. There were good things. The bad/sad play of others highlight themselves more than others.

Yeah. Some. First holidays without my grandfather. That was tough. Thought I would see a friend, didn't happen either.

Your family come in? You go to them?

While Joki is on loan, capfriendly only shows the Hawks with 6 d-men plus Garrison. Any chance he gets in one game as a Hawk before ending the year in Rockford?

Read so much stuff on here, I went to play this one back (even knowing the result), and lasted about a shift an a half. I'm not a fan of outdoor hockey -and setting aside the fact that I can't do it here in Australia generally ... I have back in the US a long time ago ... and when I had the choice to play on a regular indoor rink, or outdoors ... I played on an indoor rink every time.

If I wanted to watch a bunch of guys playing on a flooded parking lot, then I would... the fact is that I haven't in like 35 some odd years.

Note to marketing gurus ... it, uh, maybe, might look good on paper, it might allow you to sell a one off jersey ... but - yeh - it is really bad hockey. Frankly, I'm surprised anyone would have been able to analyse anything from this --- it was all over the place.

Wake me for the next game --- and I might be able to take it more seriously.

Although, ok ... yeh they were nice jerseys ... I'll give them that - they know how to design those.

Stemming from EK's best lineup thread... Who you got for the Hawks all time starting 5?

Hull/Mikita/Kane/Keith/Chelios/Hall?

Really Hall vs Tony O is the only "debate". Maybe Savard vs Kane too, but Kane is a more natural Winger where Savard/Mikita are both centers.

Really not that bad of a game. Ward played well and got the start since he's veteran and may not get to play an outside game. Whatever.

Seabrook is Seabrook but playing with Forsling kind of sucks. That dude is horrid in his own zone.

AA playing bigger minutes and hopefully getting ancillary points with Kane gets hia value pumped up a bit.

DeBrincat on the third line keeps a bridge offer lower but he'll probably wait to sign.

I think they've given up to some extent on the playoffs and you have guys out in situations they normally wouldn't be (Forsling towards end of game) to see how they will react and what they actually have to better shape next year's roster.

Boston is a good team the Hawks are an OK team and I think the score accurately showed that.

What about Pierre Pilote, whose #3 is retired? He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most outstanding defenceman three straight seasons in 1963, 1964 and 1965 — a feat matched or surpassed only by Doug Harvey, Bobby Orr and Nicklas Lidström in NHL history — as well as runner-up in 1962, 1966 and 1967. He was on the First or Second All-Star Team every year from 1960 to 1967.[2] Pilote had an iron man streak of playing 376 consecutive games over more than five seasons.

Gus - looked really solid today by creating and SUSTAINING offensive chances all over the ice. If this guy can get to a point where he is consistently just mediocre in his own then the Hawks have a real gem.

Saad - He needs to be more confident carrying the puck, stop deferring to other players. Too many times he gains the zone and dishes off when he should barrel ahead towards the net.

Murphy - Looked great in his own end out there.

AA - At this point he doesn't really offer much that Strome isn't now bringing.

Forsling - While he has looked good at times, I think Stan should offer him as a sweetener to get a better return on moving a guy like AA.

- Bjm84

Also see this with Strome, which can often happen playing with Kane. He gets the puck and is immediately looking to get rid of it.

Agree Fatty! Gave a hot PP too many chances and your 4th line got caught running around on the game winner. We hit a couple posts and missed a few empty nets. Honestly, it's hard not to be optimistic watching this team play right now. Their depth is there, Cagguila will certainly help with that, and other than Forsling who was a walking yardsale, the D has come together nicely.

Raddysh has some pretty good offensive skills like Gustafsson, not as flashy, but adept at passing, running the PP, and shooting from the point. Both are stellar on the PP and in OT. Defensively, Raddysh is not that strong often missing his assignments. Could get better with pro experience and coaching.

Carlsson and Hillman are pretty similar: skate well, play physical, doesn't give up on plays. Both are defense first but aren't totally devoid of offense either with Carlsson having a greater ceiling in comparison: say 20-25 points versus 10-15 for Hillman in a full 82 game NHL season.

Again, I would like to see them rotated on a cup of coffee basis to see what they can each bring. Just a few games so not enough to shatter their confidence if they're truly not ready but enough to see what strengths they have and what weaknesses still need work.

Put Orr on the back end with Pilote. Remember, he DID play 18 game with the Hawks!!! Scored something like 23 points while skating on one leg too. Best player EVER. That guy was just unbelievable. Hell, TWO scoring championships by a D-man. Nobody else has even one......crazy good!!!

They don't have any depth which is a problem.

At forward they're maybe 2.5 lines deep on a good day. The 4th line is not good and the third is meh and AA isn't helping 2. Don't think Sikura is ready for the NHL yet and Kahun is still adjusting to the smaller ice.

They don't have a top defensive pairing or even a number one defender. When Connor Murphy (and I am a fan of that trade) is your best all around defender and Gus is a number 2 that is a big problem.

They're definitely a top forward, a fourth line and two good defenders away from being able to compete. 2-3 years if they do it all internally which would be ridiculous since not all those guys will work. Maybe 2 years if they pick top 3 and get a high end player and Boqvist goes on a tear.

I think they're interesting to watch at this point and glad that the complete unwatchable trainwreck is over but they're by no means a good team.

Seabrook btw doesn't have a lot to do with their ability to improve the roster and has been fine where he's at. Worst case is he's taking a roster spot but if lil Henri, Mitchell and Boqvist are all on the right side to start next year, holy crap will they be bad.

Fine as a placeholder leadership whatever. Kind of over complaining about him at this point.

Has there been an outdoor game where Patrick Kane has been a factor, contributor? It just seems like he gets shut out/down a lot of the games. Just cannot recall.

Agree with you guys. It was a good game and a winnable game. Long stretches the Hawks played in the attacking zone and had chances. This is kind of just what happens when your best players get their chances but miss.

i.e.
Kane had a breakaway and couldn't beat Rask.
Toews late one off the post.
DeBrincat had some good looks and I think he missed an open net opportunity.
Some other good looks and close calls, like Murphy ringing it off the crossbar, a great tip by AA, etc.

Chances were there, but just didn't bury them. I think the refs made a few weak calls and the special teams just sealed the fate. Sometimes the bounces go your way and sometimes they don't. Yesterday, they didn't go our way.

Been chirping on this for a LONG time.

Their issues start up front, because when you don't roll four lines of solid forechecking, you are chasing all night. When opposing teams see that, they feel comfortable activating their defensemen in the O zone.

Throw in the combination of aging and inexperienced D corps and it just gets worse. Forsling - I was never impressed with. He has a few good games and then reverts to clown shoe mode.

I will say that Murphy and Dahlstrom are a huge upgrade - just paying too much for Murphy as a third pairing guy.

All of this combines to give up 40 shots a night, and that means to give up two goals or less, your goalie has to have a .950 SVPCT or better.

This a a rookie tryout camp for the rest of the season, and the playoffs are a pipedream.
