Justin Happy New Year, Thanks for some insight on these 2 new hawks players.

How does can fit into Chicago's long term plan and when J oki comes back who gets moved or benched ? Chicago has way to many defenseman and I just feel that Keith and Seabrook are eating cap and playing time from these kids ?

Any other rumors you are aware of ?

Well said Oldduffman,

I am really surprised this is still being debated. SB mistake over the years was trying to find players Q would use and sign them, then looking like a fool when it failed over and over.

Yes, ultimately the GM can sign who they want, but if the coach is not on board, or at least consulted, then that would just be plain dumb in any walk of life.

But here we are, time to move on. The roster will continue to get younger, faster and more difficult to play against.

Interesting factoid... Caggiula and Delia share the same birthday - June 20, 1994.

Can you sign my name on the cards you send them this year? I will chip in postage....

I'm not buying into the belief that Manning and Kunitz were only acquired "because of Q".
First, Kunitz is still playing pretty regularly for JC. This organization has plenty of other choices for bottom 6 guys. Second, it wasn't coach Q who signed Manning to that ridiculous contract.

Kunitz once in 10 games = regular?

Caggiula and Garrison (at this stage in his career) are not good hockey players. Bowman is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with Caggiula but in reality this was all about getting Manning’s contact off the books for next season.

Then again, I thought Perlini would be a solid middle 6 winger here.

Use the word “horticulture” in a sentence:

You can lead a horticulture - but you can’t make her think.

(Sorry - every time I hear that “horse to water” cliche, I think of that Dorothy Parker witicism.)

Manning is a good guy who always tries his best. I think the move to Chicago was not a good match for whatever reason. His play in Philly the prior three seasons was not bad, but he was overused by his coach and put into situations above his skill level.

I don't think his play had been that bad the past six or seven games he played, but JC obviously wanted his Rockford guys back there on D. Manning should get a fresh start in Edmonton and hopefully it will work out for him.

It was just an awful signing for the way the Hawks play. Manning will be much more suited to the system Hitchcock deploys. I expect he will be a fine bottom pairing D for Edmonton.

a win for the hawks even if the players in return are gone by the end of the year...

a win plus if the young former oiler turns out to be a significant bottom 6 contributor...

now waive or trade kunitz for a future 8th round pick and all will be well...

its all about the playoff push now...

Crow can be put on LTIR though like 7-8 others the Yotes have including other former Hawks Davey Boy and Marian.

Saying Kunutiz Manning and Ward were not Q guy's is BS ,it was as evident as the moustache on Q face they were his guy's .Q had sabotaged almost every player move Stan made in the last 3years ,so Stan gave him the players he wanted and it blew up in Q face and led to his long overdue firing . Nice move by Stan .

Stan and the front office now have their coach and he I would believe is on side with the moves being made . Coaches may not have much say in who is acquired (I don't truly believe this ) but they sure have say who plays and were and when . Both the coach and the FO need to b on the same page ,and that was not happening here for sometime .

Nice to see management and coach on the same page now. This bodes well for player development and deployment.

Idk. Was looking at the Cap projections on here and the Yates have almost as many guys on IR as they do playing.

Q did an amazing job of amassing talent in the 10 years he was here to win 3 cups along with 2 other conference finals.

Too bad his Manning and Kunitz signings didnt pan out, but I'll take all the other talent he brought in...since it was all his call.

He clearly was distraught about having to move Hjarllmarsson at that time, but he left the Hawks with Murphy, so hopefully that works for the Hawks going forward.

I'm also a Garrison fan, but bummed he'll be sent to the Rock.

Easy to blame Q and I'm sure he nodded some approval when the Manning signing happened.

But a GM with his finger on the pulse of his organization has to know that Forsling is better than Manning; Dahlstrom could potentially fill the position internally and that he had already signed a refugee boatload of Dmen who were intended to help.

So what was going thru Stan's mind - oh I will sign Manning to make Joel happy because he is still pissed at me for trading Hammer?

Stan just bought some time from the executioner with this trade. If he doesnt do something real good for the long term at the TDL he should meet the same fate as Q.

After Q was let go, Kunitz was still in the lineup.

Who signed Manning to that contract? Q?

Hawks outdoor practice moved due to rain. Remind me again why I hate these outdoor farces. I care more about player safety than the final score in these things.

Can't tell if people didn't like Manning because of his skill/playing style, or because they thought he was a "Q guy"...

Personally, I expected more from him. I don't dislike him but his on ice performance wasn't up to par. There were too many games early this season where his mistakes resulted in goals against the team. Some of it was probably bad luck and adjustment to a new team, but he just got passed over by better options in the lineup. Maybe he will fit in with Hitch in Edmonton.
