No no im just encouraging you to do better....you can do it fella I believe in you
- RatedR80

Not much more I can do after pointing out that your team is awful year after year after year. Your encouragement will not let me give up, though. I'll keep trying.

Sorry you feel that way. I do support this team but I do not support the management system that has run this franchise into the ground. If missing the playoffs for one year means proper change can happen so be it
- freelancer

But are you ACTUALLY convinced it'll be "proper" change and not just some retreading or bastardization of what change should be? Calling it now, Wayne Gretzky as GM, Keith Gretzky stays as AGM and no other changes occur.

Management has been an issue long before Chia came on board.....getting Chia fired would be a great thing but can we trust this group to bring in someone that can finally help us? As said in the last thread it’s going to be the most important hire of the franchise....get it wrong and it’s good bye McDavid

Didn’t I just say tank nation failed and to do it different?
- RatedR80

Didn't I just say try longer?
Didn't I suggest trying something different like moving the franchise to another city?

So you are going to point out what everyone in here and everywhere else knows already that this franchise isn’t good? Well thanks for repeating the narrative then....maybe your next gem can be to inform us that the sun rises and sets everyday

Try longer? Good stuff man....suggesting more of the same will clearly work

Canucks fans have never been all that good at the whole reading thing. There approach is to project a "holier than thou" sort of omnipotence while exhibiting varying measures of unholy impotence. The variance is directly related to how much their team is scoring and the number of people hating on their lord and saviour, John Garrett- damn do they ever love that butt munch.

Convinced? Not in the slightest. Sure there is something to be said about the devil you know... but right now things are not working and if things are not working than it needs to be fixed.

Personally I don’t feel the need to embrace the tank....what we need is for someone who actually has a clue to run a hockey team to come in and clean things up and make moves that will make us a better hockey club instead of always moving backwards.....tank nation clearly didn’t work out for us so perhaps a new approach is needed

I would agree needing better leadership in Mgmt. McDavid is an awesome player . One of the best ever . Draisitl Nurse and RNH are very good also. The rest not so much.

I don't think the draft is strong this year (IMO) so when I hear tanking or trade for picks this year I think it is a pretty dumb comment.

Unfortunately for you lot, its been working for years with the change not likely on the horizon.

Unless Katz can seduce Sather to return somehow.
Cuz you know he loves his alumni.

Klefbom and Larsson are both better players than Nurse, but otherwise I agree. Gotta have at least two more impact forwards to push the rest down the batting order and into positions where they can succeed.

I'm not all that worried about the D with Klefbom, Larsson and Nurse all being top-4 D and Bouchard and Jones trending upward.

Step 1: Add size to Kailer YamBags by feeding him whatever Katz' kid was on.
Step 2: Buyout Lucic
Step 3: Re-sign Melanie Lucic to buy him out again 5 minutes later because (frank) that guy

Chiarelli has a brilliant thought...they don't need to really do anything

If you are an Oilers fan, and they some how decide to keep Chiarelli, then him deciding to do nothing maybe the best case scenario.

Judging from his previous work, the last thing you want is for Chiarelli to think he needs to do something.

I’m not worried about the blueline either even tho that seems to be the area that most are focused on....as you said if we got some forward help then that would allow McDavid, Drai and Nuge to drive their own lines and what a difference that would make....go from a top heavy team to one with a balanced attack.....less pressure on the blueline that way too

I’m concerned about what he will do to save his job if our slide continues....nothing good has ever come from Chia trying to make a major move

I think it's foolish to want your team to not make the playoffs because you don't like the management. There's no guarantee Chiarelli would be let go if they don't make it. It'd be better to get the youth some playoff experience. You want to create a winning culture for them to thrive on.

The Oilers re-build philosophy, tank and hope you can get the #1 draft pick. Then rush him into the NHL before he is physically and emotionally ready for the NHL. Followed by, trade him away for penny's on the dollar saying it wasn't our fault he was a bust.

Agreed.

It would be nice if the owner who can CLEARLY see that this GM has failed (reports from earlier in the season described him as "fed up with losing") would just pull the plug and let a new guy try his hand. Keeping Chiarelli is just delaying the inevitable firing that's in his future. Whether this year, next year or the year after, it's going to to happen so why waste anymore of McDavid's career humoring the flawed vision of a GM on his way out? The same as what went for Todd, but they delayed that longer than it should've gone, too.

No, I disagree. The state of current affairs with people today is to crave instant gratification and then pout and whine when things don't go as planned. I'm not going there.

We have the best player IN THE WORLD on our team, a decent group of guys to surround him, and a very good coach.

Get out of my feed with your negative nonsense, this is the team I have rooted for for about 38years now and I say they are going to win the cup! If not, well, let's try again.

Choose winning.
Choose positivity.
Choose success.

that's it.

Merry Christmas you filthy animals.

Let's shake it up first, though

Acquire Verhaeghe for a 2019 4th
Spooner, Bear and a 2020 1st for Nyquist and Jensen
Caggiula and Yamamoto for Toffoli and a 2019 2nd
Nurse for Kapanen and a 2019 3rd

Nyquist- McDavid- Toffoli
Verhaeghe- Draisaitl- Kapanen
Khaira- Nuge- Puljujarvi
Rieder- Brodziak- Kassian
Rattie, Lucic

Klefbom- Larsson
Sekera/Russell- Jensen
Jones- Benning
Gravel

Buyout Lucic (there's at least SOME savings), trade Sekera or Russell (whichever you can get the most cap space from). Use all the draft picks to stock the cupboards.

- MaximumBone

No for Toffoli trade, and That 2nd isn’t going with Toffoli.

I agree on some level. I'll never cheer for them to lose, but I can't see the link between "choose winning" and not demanding change at the upper levels. Asking for a contending (or at least upper-competitive) team out of the assets this management group had at their disposal from a decade of abject failure isn't demanding "instant gratification". This fanbase has been patient enough.

Do you think Nurse is worth Kapanen and a 3rd, Im an Oilers fan, but its chiarelli at the helm, and I think to get kapanen, we would have to do nurse and a3rd so with chiapet there that sounds like nurse a 2nd and a 3rd

I don't care what the trade would look like if Chiarelli made it; we all know they wouldn't look like this. I'm commenting on what I think would be fair value in each of the trades. The amount of people that try to derail a conversation about trades by saying something equivalent to "but Chiarelli is dumb and a bad GM so [insert awful value proposition]" is (frank)ing absurd.
