I really like Petersson’s stick work and that Rikki isnt afraid to hit.

Rikki does this poke check/take the body all at once. I love it I think he's a quality bottom 4 dman

We may have a pretty solid D especially when Schultz comes back. It does leave options for us to trade D. I do also have to agree with all of you. Grant just brings something different to our 4th line that Cullen does not. I get they like Cullen's leadership, but they need to keep him as a healthy scratch. I think if you put Grant back on the 4th line and trade for a 3rd line center who can fit with our team better than Brass has. I think we go back to being a dangerous team to play.

As a side note I got some excitement this past week working near Edmonton they talked about Penguins being interested in Kassian and Lucic (not why I was excited). The one radio talk show host discussed potential trades with the Penguins involving each player. He stated Kassian could be just for a pick, but he felt they were really trying to get rid of Lucic. They said not only would retain salary, but they would be desperate enough at this point to retain salary and take a bad contract back (JJ). There was also a article written the next day on us having similar interest (see below). I am not sure where Lucic would fit, but it was very interesting. I still feel he needs a change of scenery and could dominate in front of the net for us (especially for 3-4 million after retention). The biggest would be us getting rid of JJ especially as mentioned above if Schultz comes back. Keeping Pettersson and Riikola on the ice should help us defensively going forward.

Hell no on Lucic we already have the best net front guy in the league. Pens should move Sheahan first and get Grant in the 4c and then go from there with trades.

Well... I would normally be 100% with you on the Hell no to Lucic... but lets spit ball a bit here.

They take on JJ (more likely Maatta because JR is stupid), and eat ~ 1.5mil of Lucic's deal ( (frank) at 2 mil I'd be all for this). He is still a 20 goal scorer, and will be on a better team. Salary wise its a wash, and if they do dump JJ... holy (frank)ing poop yes. Since he is having an utter poop year, they may even throw in a pic on top of the above 2 parts, great for our always trading away pick style.

Now, lets say we don't want to keep Lucic... now its a 4.5 mil a year contract that is a lot more moveable for us.

I'd at least listen to how much they want to keep and if they legit would take away Johnson... and if JR is smart enough to move on from Johnson.

Nah. Not when you play Tom Wilson in the playoffs but Lucic at 2 mil wouldn’t be a bad pickup. I would doubt that deal would get done though.

I know make some odd trade proposals, but these are the moments I’m glad you guys are not the GM.

Kassian and/or Lucic? Gtfo

I can’t see how either of those players wouldn’t be an upgrade to the roster at different spots. However Kassian isn’t MS type player, he hits and fights and incites excitement into the game. Lucic can still play some good hockey but his contract sucks.

So you want to move this team further away from getting back to their identity?

Plus, if JR is gonna make a move for a forward this year he needs to go big or do nothing.

Even if someone like Lucic helped a little it’s not what’s needed to go up against Tampa or Toronto.

JR needs to be targeting big names or hold on to his futures.

In what world does Lucic play some good hockey? He had a chance to play with McDavid and still can't put up any points. He can't skate. He doesn't create anything. His contract makes JJ's look like a steal.

I think this team could really come together with a committed 3c and another RD. Maybe about 6 or 7 weeks away from getting Schultz back. Plus, Sullivan has to play the players that deserve the jersey's.

My guess is outside of some major injuries, the Pens will not be bringing in any NEW dmen. If the perception of the coaching staff is the defense is playing better now, logic would say the idea of getting Schultz back is as good as making that trade.

If the Pens are going to make a move for a forward, it should be someone on the level of Nyquist or Zucc. If they can also upgrade 3C then they should. I'm over Brassard, but dealing with that situation is far easier said than done.

Could they go out and get someone like Dzingel or Panik? Sure and it would probably help a little, but it wouldn't put them over the top.

EDIT: The Pens are not even close to locking in a playoff spot right now. The Isles are not losing and beating good teams. It's likely only three playoff teams come out of the metro this year.

In no world does he play some good hockey. I wouldn't take him at a $1M contract and I'm not saying to make a point; I really wouldn't.

At least Pettersson has helped JJ not be a total disaster. Lucic would absolutely drag this team down.

Yeah, I mean it's not he's had a chance to play with any good centers there.

He has what 2 goals in 80 some games playing with CmD, Drai and getting some time on PP? Unacceptable production regardless of the cap hit. Hitchcock finally has accepted lucic is nothing more than a 3/4 line big body and hitter

Reaves is honestly a more effective player than Lucic right now.

Fun fact, Derek Grant is the same size as Lucic and only 15 lbs lighter. Grant has played 17 less games than Lucic this season almost exclusively on the 4th line with no PP time. He has 2g and 3 assists to Lucic's 1g and 7 assists. But sure, all Lucic needs is a change of scenery away from those boat anchors McD and Drai. I'm sure he'd flourish in the pens speed scheme for 6x Grant's contract
