He gets leeway for not being able to produce with dead weight in his rookie year. I have no issue with the total points.

He's a non factor on a lot of shifts though and tell me you wouldn't even slightly punish a rookie for trying a no look back pass in his own end with a one goal lead?

- Sabresfan-365

He is learning on the job. It’s evident that he probably should have played another year of college but with ROR gone we had an open spot. I’m sure everyone wishes he was producing more but having seen his raw skill and domination of players his own age he will eventually get better with more experience.

So you're assuming he didn't get "talked to" on the bench after his shift? When was the pass? Did he see the ice afterwards? I missed it.

getting a talking to doesn't have nearly the same effect as getting demoted a line. And yeah he saw his next regular shift.

Maybe it's being back in here, but I just saw Hutton's #40 and had a flashback to Robin Lehner

Going out there being afraid to make a mistake, especially for a creative-type player, is no good either.

You have to know your people.

afraid to make a mistake is when you are too afraid to make a cross ice pass in the o-zone.

A no look back pass in your own end up by 1 is just dumb.

I haven't watched every game so maybe im nuts but points aside, has he actually looked better as the season has gone on?

He had a stretch in there where it looked like he was turning the corner and then...

No goals in 10 games and another secondary assist. Great play however. Evidence doesn’t lie. He’s a second overall pick who can’t carry his own line but doesn’t screw the pooch when playing with good players.

Turning WHAT corner? He's 40 games in to his NHL career, and he probably should have started in Rochester, so it's not all on him.

and would have went in on a breakaway if he had a winger worth a damn that could have gotten him the puck...yes, turnover was egregious...they didn't score, but we'll hear about it for a month

that's why i said it's amazing how much leeway he's getting. He should have been in Rochester, that was the organizations decision to leave him up here as the 2C
