He was just an unsigned college free agent that the hawks were interested in because I believe he played with Schmaltz.

then he played with Luke Johnson too

Caggila , skates well, some skill. Fits bottom 6 depth.

You are ahead of me on the cap implications.

Anyone who believes Garrison will wear a hawk jersey this year, should stop posting on this board.

Al’s take:

From what I have heard today about Caggiula-He's energy guy with some skill that wasn't a Hitch favorite. Actually, from what I was told he was playing very well before the coaching change. Change of scenery may suit him well.

Essentially, adds another $750,000 for Cap Space next year...and if they wanted to send Caggiula to the Rock wouldn't his Cap hit only account for $500,000? Or do I have that wrong?
- HawkintheD

Your right plus if at the tdl hawks could take on a bad contract(expiring) for picks and prospects from playoff bound team looking to make a move to help their team. good trade would rather have gotten kassian can hurt with more speed. Caggiula plays a lot of heart and speed some skill gritty forward from what I've seen from Edmonton games I have watched. Give bowman and company props 2 good trades and identifying mistakes and fixing them I have a feeling manning was a Q player like Kunitz.

Haven't really followed him or the Oil much this year but could provide some bottom 6 scoring...and like you said, just like with Strome, perhaps the change of scenery will suit him.

The Hawks were interested in Garrison when he signed as a free agent with Vancouver. It came down to Vancouver, TB and Chicago but he went with his home town. At this point in his career Garrison is an AHL insurance policy.

Drake could be a solid bottom 6 forward. If he doesn’t work out it’s not a major loss, almost all his salary can be buried in Rockford.

Overall it’s a great deal, even if it’s a small scale move.

Anyone still thinking that SB brought in those 2 because he liked them and did not just do it for Q needs to look at the games played for both guys with JC plus the bus ticket out of town for Manning. Great guy and team mate, but not part of the solution.

I agree with your Caggiula assessment. With the Perlini add and now Caggiula, starting to add the bottom six type players the Penguins had. Speed, grit with some skill.

I think you're referring to Schmaltz when you say "mistake", I'm not sure how you can characterize the pick of Schmaltz as a mistake in any sense of the word.

He was a late first rounder that had some success and flipped for two players that appears so far to be a decent trade for both teams but the jury is still out. So far I like the trade.

The potential mistake would have been to give Schmaltz a long term deal for $6M+ but that possibility was averted altogether.

Hawks liked Caggiula when he was free agent, so not surprised they found a deal to give him a new start in Chicago. Good trade for the Hawks who had to move a D to free up space for the future. Nice!

Just scored again though to go up 19-10. Too bad the Niners couldn't have upset the Rams today.

Kwiatkowski snags a pass from Mitch for the 2 pt conversion. I was pretty sure the Bears would lose this game, given MN had it's playoff life to play for.

Shorthanded at WR and still winning...in MN. Impressive.

While this deal gets rid of Manning's 2-year contract, it brings back a d-man for just the rest of the year so it doesn't necessarily address the glut on the blueline.

Overall I like the deal, though. Garrison can bring some value while Caggiula is a pretty decent bottom 6 winger. Maybe something like:

DeBrincat - Kampf - Sikura
Perlini - Kruger - Caggiula
Hayden

No disrespect to your guy but I would like to know the definition of playing well.....he cannot defend well and has a habit of making some real boneheaded plays....if you can get past those flaws then yes you have a high energy guy who might be able to give you some production

At one point, it said Vikings 14 Bears 10. It was up for like 5 minutes.
Rams had an easy game. I guess we got Philly. Great win by the Bears today.

He isn't so bad. Nothing flashy but could benefit from the change of scenery. The Hawks will just need to take some time with him to ease him in and deploy him in a role that fits him.

Chiarelli could have had Manning from Bowman for an old hockey stick but I guess they had to make it look like a real trade for salary cap reasons.

I expect both Oilers sent here will be flipped or sent to Rockford to bolster that team.

All but $425,000 of his cap hit can be buried, it’s not a risk to give up Manning for him.

Bring Fernando Pisani out of retirement. His final season was when he played for the Hawks actually.

Personally, I'm not sure Norell will ever see NHL ice, but he is 23, so there is time. I don't get to see many Rockford games, so I haven't seen him all that much (someone here who sees more of those AHL games might have more detailed insight) I think he can skate well and defend but not a high ceiling for skill or offense. I think in Chicago, he was passed over because they have many too many D prospects. He was just never one that stood out to me with the Hawks prospects.

As much as I don’t like Caggiula I feel you guys got the better deal unless Norell is some special kind of player that I don’t know about
