I'm not sure where you're getting that idea from. Nobody has said that. What was said is don't compare a beer leaguer and his experiences to a professional athlete and his.
- MJL

I agree with that. But the idea of gaining confidence and perfecting skills against a lower level of competition is relevant. IMO

So basically, he got the same term and $1M more per year than Jack Johnson.

I agree. Sometimes, players come into the league already too good for that league. Other times, outside factors like injuries force players to get called up before they're fully 100% developed, so to speak. Most of us wanted Hart to get more AHL times before being called up.

But using a beer league as a reference to compare to the AHL/NHL is a completely different matter.

I'm with you there.

Absolutely it is. Some players can step right into the NHL. Most can't. Most need to develop in steps and work their way up.

At least our glass goalie only costs 2.5 million against the cap and is in his last year, lol

Guentzel 5x6... Ut oh

I don’t think that’s a terrible deal for a guy they absolutely needed to resign. Five mil would have been a lot better obviously, but it’s not horrible considering where things are heading.

It's a good deal for someone who is only 24. Curious to see who the Penguins shed next year to make room.

FYI: Jack Johnson is there for LIFE!

Oh I don’t think guentzel left too much meat on the bone there. But realistically I could have seen a very real situation where he gets 7 a year.

Yeah the Jack Johnson deal is crippling. The trickle down effect is huge. I still have a feeling they eventually want to move on from kessel, which I think would be a mistake. Hell, he will cost less than a million more than guentzel.

Please do not force me to be mean, as you compare your beer league skills to any nhl player’s skill sets.
- SuperSchennBros

You assume just by title of "Beer league" that it is just a bunch of scrubs that dont know the game but a lot of the people know the game very we and are very skilled. Of course some people fit that bill but there are a lot of really skilled guys. I am in beer league because I want to play for fun, I have to get up and go to work in the morning the next day. I cant be going out there and getting myself killed for the sake of a trophy. I play together with friends and enjoy it. I could easily play in higher levels.

I actually played in a provincial ball hockey tournament against Ryan Ellis of the Preds before he went pro. It was 11-14 years ago in Hamilton Ontario. We lost that game 3-2. I cant remember much about it as I was unaware at the time. Only later on did my team mate point it out to me.

With the cap going up like it is that's a decent deal especially since he's money in the playoffs

I think people who don't play hockey assume beer leagues are just overweight benders, but like you said there are MANY skilled players in some of these leagues. Not NHL skilled, but I have played with many players who had experience playing overseas.
