Money is also a factor, it's a contract that Botterill is stuck with thanks to Murray. It wouldn't make financial sense to buy him out as of now.
- SABRES 89

I agree and I'm sure Botts does not want to do buyouts, especially with Okposo. A buyout would cost them $20M in cap hits over the next 8 years. I'm not sure what the answer is. A trade with eating some salary could happen, who knows.

There's also the matter of the modified NTC. Really the best we can hope for is a pronger/lupul scenario

Yes, he has a 15 team no trade list. I hope he turns it around. It sure would be beneficial to him and the team.

He's good at doing that on the half wall on the PP.

He has a NMC, which cap friendly shows as ending after the season. The Moulson treatment makes more sense than a buyout. Not wishing an LTIR situation on a healthy player.

I'm not wishing further injury on him, I'm hoping he and the Sabres can reach a solution. He's not the player he was, and he probably shouldn't be playing right now. He already said his personality changed. Healthy is relative for him it seems

I thought forsure he was done after that injury scare that led to his hospitalization. I don't think we can LITR him because everyone has seen that he's been able to play in regular season games although not very well.

I wouldn't be shocked if he retired after the season.

Lots of people in the organization knew what was happening And quite frankly shocked that he continue playing

That’s why he’s one of the well respected in the room

Maybe not, just seems like a guy who would walk away before turning into Moulson (healthy scratch into the AHL).

I could never hope for that kind of situation for someone. Is it a real possibility given his history at this point? Sure. But to actually HOPE for it is a bit extreme.

Right,

reporter- eichel and you were mad at each other?

Ror - was "no big deal"

Reporter - ok , thanks for clearing that up, no further questions

- Boss34

Or here’s what ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Podcast host,
(Previously they were discussing Dahlin)
“...and then there was the big trade with O’Reilly- who i know you’re boys with- but all the pieces u got back”

Jack’s response,
“Yeah, we got a lot for him. And ppl ask me, like what i thought of it...”

*so this is Jack, addressing the situation-
not responding to a reporter asking if there were issues between them
Again, there’s a difference
He could’ve simply said,
“He’s a good player, but we got a good return. I wish him the best, etc etc”

Instead, he went on to say...

“It kinda sucks, bc he was like one of my best buddies and we were really tight”

*not something u say about someone you don’t like

“and there’s kinda like rumors out there that me & him had problems”

Host- “rumors like that are unreal”

Jack again,
“Kinda ridiculous, and and ppl were like running with it at the time and and it’s kinda crazy bc we were actually really tight and he’s like one of my best buddies, and i just wanted to put those to rest”

*so a 2nd time saying they were best buddies & really tight

And there’s more...

Podcast host-
“By the way, u ever... just make a video, or do something funny, or to come out & say this is Bullsh!t?”

Jack,
“Well we were doing it all the time, bc he scored a goal last year and i went over to give him knucks, and he kinda breezed me as a joke, and then the buffalo media ran with it.
And they were like, they were like, look at this- O’Reilly or Eichel, they’re like having problems.
And me & him are like dying laughing.
So we started thinking, like every time one of us scores- like breeze the other guy.
Then everyone’s gonna think we don’t like each other.
So we were kinda like, we were messing around with it obviously”

And everyone, including Jack,
just laughing the whole time & making fun of how ridiculous the situation was

There’s no freaking way someone talks about the situation in a laughing manner & makes all that stuff up
No way

Im sure he's the nicest guy on the team. Seems like a great family man. At the end of the day its a performance based business, and he needs to perform.

I disagree. After reading the Athletic article, my first thought was, this guy should never play hockey again

I wish Okposo nothing but the best with whatever he decides.

There have been several posters who have reported the rift in the locker room between the two. Idk how many more times it has to be stated. Believe your opinion as much as you want but its wrong. Obviously Eichel and ROR are going to take the highroad in the media. Just like every GM that goes to the media and gives his tailor made responses. The culture was broken, every single player has mentioned "culture" being better this season like its a broken record. Eichel even said he didn't lose his "love of the game" in an interview a couple of months back taking a subtle shot at ROR. Give it a rest.

It’s gonna be interesting to see what Minny does this offseason
They’ve gotta realize by now,
even with StL & Chicago falling down,
that they just can’t realistically challenge for the Cup-
let alone their division with Nashville & Winnipeg, and even the AVs passing them

They’re gonna have to make some changes
A new coach didn’t do it
Staal is UFA
Parise & Suter aren’t getting any younger

Eventually,
they’re gonna have to blow it up
