Heading to Chicago for New Years for the Classic. You guys have any advise for getting from Chicago to Notre Dame. We rented a car. Is it a mad house getting in there?
- Mahewman

It's a pretty easy all expressway drive from Chicago to South Bend. It's usually around 2 hrs, though things may bog down a little once you get near the South Bend exits. The only thing you need to really worry about is if it is snowing even a little, coming around the lake from Chicago to South Bend can get some pretty nasty lake effect snow that can make the commute a nightmare for a bit.

Depending on how you leave Chicago you eventually have to get on I-90 which is a toll road all the way to South Bend.

If leaving downtown Chicago take I-94 south (Dan Ryan Expressway) and take the I-90 exist around 63rd street.

If leaving from one of the airports, take I-294 south (another toll road) to the south suburbs and then take I80 / I94 east. About 12-15 miles into Indiana take the I-90 east exit all the way to South Bend. There are 2-3 exits at South Bend, but I don't remember the stadium exit. I'm sure one of the exits calls out the stadium.

Hopefully your rental car has a GPS.

Trade deadline seems so far away. Tank this (frank)er already and get yourself one of these blue chip centers in the top 5. Trade all the old guys not named Toews/Kane for 2019 draft picks and prospects, play the kids like it's 2008 again, and lets get back to where we were. Take on expiring big cap hits for better picks/prospects too while you're at it. Hawks play tonight but I'll sadly be more inclined to watch the damn Juniors tourney than our dumpster fire on ice. How does a two-bit sportscaster get an expressway named after him?

Oh wait, that's Roan. My bad.

Dan Ryan was some old Cook County politician. Don't know what he did to get a highway named after him. Probably set a record for collecting the most graft.

There is a movement afoot to rename the Dan Ryan to the Barack Obama Expressway.

Dan Ryan was a big highway guy, wanted connections all around Chicago. What better way to pay respects for the guy? The Ryan family today is saying no to the name being changed, and I quote, "If the highway name be changed, my grandfather would roll over in his grave."

To the Bruins poster here today, be safe on your travels.

President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1954 to his death.

Ryan was a promoter of superhighways for the Chicago area, financing was difficult before creation of the Interstate Highway System, and in 1955 Ryan engineered an ambitious bond issue program to jump-start construction of expressways in Cook County.

I think our Air BNB is south of Chicago. I am assuming there is plenty of parking around the Stadium / Where should we go to tailgate? Anywhere?

You going to the game?

He decided against partaking in the Hockey Fights Canada night. He's now spearheading Hockey Fights Highways day, though.

It's like Norm McDonald's skit of Germany looking for an opponent ... the world.

USA 2 - Slovakia 1 final. Barratt was recognized as USA player of game.

I think this kid is going to get signed to a deal sooner rather than later. Was tied for the lead in the country for most points and has played great all year. Lots of people seem to think that the Juniors are going to be even more of a coming out party for him. I think we might see him in a Hawks uniform to end the season if he keeps playing this well. I see him being a big part of things going forward.

Entwistle looking good on the PK for Canada.

Another good sign for the depth of this team. Could be another sneaky pickup by Stanbo from the Hossa salary dump that ends up playing a key role for the bottom six on this team.

As much as people don't think we have any "impact" guys on the way besides the "Big 3" on D, if we end up with a Top 5 pick this year and get an impact guy to go with the impact guys we already have and some of these kids like Barratt, Entwistle, Sikura, Kurashev, Nordgren, Wise, Soderlund, etc. can get their game to the NHL level and play key roles in this team the future will not look nearly as bleak as some people seem to think it is.

From the early returns so far it looks like the Hawks Front Office may have had two solid drafts in a row that end up adding some much needed depth to this Franchise.

That was my first impression too, but he grew on me as I watched. Then when you factor in that he’s only 17, two years younger than most of the players he’s playing against, he’s pretty impressive.

Did not now this about him. My sincere apologies about connecting Mr Ryan with graft.
Guess I've been living in the area for too long and tried to make a lame joke.

I know who Dan Ryan is, it was just a sad attempt to make fun of Dan Roan.

No I won't be going to the game.

Never been to the stadium so don't know about parking and tailgating. The stadium holds about 80 000 so there's got to be plenty of parking. Use the Google machine and you could probably find a map of the parking areas around the stadium.

Have a good time.

No problem at all, I lived on the far south side near 127th and Halsted. Dating myself but I can actually remember the south end being completed.
