USA 2 - Slovakia 1 final. Barratt was recognized as USA player of game. - gmurban
Nice game for the kid. Best part was he did/does a lot of things that don't hit the scoresheet. Tenacious fella, plays low.
Thought the Slovak scheme was a good one and their 17 yr old goalie, Hlavaj, kept them within 1 shot of upsetting the Americans. Button pointed out the US players' spacing was poor but IMO when it wasn't players skated themselves into a box with teammates wide open. Have a feeling coach wanted north-south and pucks to the net.
Schedule is very favorable starting with SLK, Kazakastan next then FIN and SWE not seeing CAN until the medal rd. |

The good game tonight is Sweden - Finland in about 45 mins. - RickJ
Right on dude, that's the one I wanted to see today. Big rivalry game right off the bat. ...... Maybe we get 25-30 pages of thoughts on Boqvist's defense optional style... Hope like hell Ferraro and Gord get the call. My favorite broadcasters in the sport.

Stan should get rid of Jokiharju in whatever deal they part company with Keith...maybe as a sweetener. |

This comedy bit only works if the GM isn't dumb enough to do something like this. |

Not too impressed with Boqvist. Team Sweden didn't have him out on the ice much during the last 5 minutes of the game. Kid looks like he needs 2 more years at the least. I only saw a little of Ian Mitchell, but it looked like he's already got some size and speed in his game. |

I thought Boqvist looked good. Sweden was protecting a lead late in the game, Boqvist is more of an offensive player so it’s not too surprising he didn’t play much. |

Maybe what you saw will put the brakes to some of the expectations here that this kid is ready soon for NHL play. He's a young kid with some talent and playing in a very good program run by the Hunter's in London. But he is miles away from playing on the Blackhawk's blueline - that is unless Bowman wants to ruin him early. |

I only saw parts of the 3rd period. I guess you saw some better moments in the first 2 periods. He looked small on a rink full of teenagers, he'll need to put on at least 15 pounds of muscle before he hits the NHL. |

He had the secondary assists on both Swede goals. |

I agree, though I would not call his play a trash. I would say he has negative value to any team - 5 year 5+ mln is not something any team will take without any money staying with Hawks. When our fans say he should fetch significant return - I think its home bias and they do not see true value of our players. I think at current contracts only DeBrincat has some value and can fetch some return, the other players are probably bringing negative return during trade (similar to stock options being under water). I see dreary picture not next 1-2 but next 7-10 years till contracts run out and enough rebuild happens. - vshun totallly agree many here grossly overstate value agree on da Cat

Could anyone tell me what goalies will be available via free agency this next offseason? Just wondering if anyone from the list is worth it over Cam Ward and his expected low salary?
Thanks

Heading to Chicago for New Years for the Classic. You guys have any advise for getting from Chicago to Notre Dame. We rented a car. Is it a mad house getting in there? |

Don't get me wrong, Boqvist will be a bust, he's the next David Rundblad. I'm just saying he wasn't all that bad in one junior game.
Jokiharju looked solid, that that was to be expected. |
