I think Provys shoulder separation surgery recovery has affected his play.. We dont know if he is wearing a brace or other orthopedic appliance which may be affecting his range of motion.. he was always so strong on the puck when carrying it... and of course the TV pundits discussing his short stick.. he was used to everything being an exact certain way and its likely not feeling or moving the same way now.. so the adrenaline goes up into his neck and head when things go astray...I doubt its contract negotiations affecting him unless the Russian Mafia is looking for a cut.. we all have heard rumors about that over the years..out of work KGB thugs... |

I'm not sure I'd go 8, but if I could sign him to a 6 year deal similar to that of Coots or Ghost, I'd be very happy. - BiggE
If he starts using a longer stick, I'd give him 8:-)

Kid had 2 great seasons and an injury to the end of last year and struggled in 30 games this year. Hes had some moments where hes back to himself certain games in thst stretch as well. If his play this year brings the cap hit down and we get lucky you telling me you couldn't do 8 years 6-6.5 million ? Would be the leagues best contract by the end the deal. - Tfaehner
If he’d do 8 years at 6-6.5 range, yeah I’d do it. |

At that number...sure. But I don’t think the players would unless he figures his play this year has that much of an effect on his new contract. That deal would be a steal for the Flyers....3-4 years down the road when the cap is probably in the mid 90’s. |

7 or below I run to the bank. I dont let him go by on a one year deal. Or a bridge. Minimum 6 years on the new deal for me. I know the kids special. Its fletcher first major negotiation with tk and provy and itll dictate all future negotiations. No pressure chuck. |

I'm not a fan of handing out 8 years to anyone other than the best of the best. I think it was a mistake to sign Voracek for 8 years as an example. I think a 6 year deal with a cap hit right around 6 million is probably workable for Provorov and if they can do that, I'd be happy. Right now, IMO, Giroux is the only Flyer deserving of an 8 year deal because he is a legitimate star player who excels at every facet of the game and in every situation. To me, that should be the criteria for locking a player up for the max length.

Solid deal for both sides. At least the talk of ridiculous deals such as 8 for 8-9M a year have calmed down. - MJL
If he had come out and played a Norris caliber role this year it would of been hard to argue against a deal like that. But now that hes showing hes not a machine I think it could be favorable for the flyers. Big time negotiation for fletch. |

Yeah, if the number is low enough I might go 8 with Provy, but as I pointed out earlier, I'm really not a fan of signing anyone other than legit star players to an 8 year deal. For TK, I'd be looking to lock him up in a deal that runs in the 4-6 year range.

The irony of it is small market teams are having trouble holding onto their players. Stone panarin are two names that come up for this season. If a team can get a guy like Jake as a re-coup and hes stuck there long term I think that's an excellent deal for a small market team. I actually hope flyers are exploring those possibilities heavily. Jake isnt as good as those players but if you're not hitting a full rebuild hes a very valuable piece to get back instead of guys walking for nothing. |

Yup, especially if the Flyers were to retain just a small portion of Jake's cap, say 1 million. Jake at 7.25 million per would be very attractive to a lot of small market teams especially with the cap and contracts going up as fast as they've been. That would likely bring in a nice haul for the Flyers in return and clear up some cash to go after a younger, and IMO better, player like Stone or Panarin. |

Yup and it's a save face move for a team like Columbus who is won now or a team like Ottawa who made deals and none worked out. If Columbus doesnt win a cup and bob panarin walk than what ? |

He was never in line to get a deal like that in my opinion.

Yes, after Neuvirth sprains his entire body making a routine save. |

Playing Neuvy alongside Hart is poor asset management of Hart. Neuvy is going to get hurt much sooner rather than later and Hart is going to get overworked. Lyon should be playing today and backing up Hart until Stolie is ready to go. I just have zero faith in Neuvy anymore. |

Scoring is up in this league for sure...so much more speed and now most good hard checks are considered a penalty. Guys just free wheel through the neutral zone and very seldom do they get much resistance. Our skaters are making plays that shouldn’t be attempted and they are getting burned....it hasn’t helped that the goaltending has blown.

Really....what do you base it on....this years play or last years ? His play this year has been poor, really poor. I agree the kid is a gem, but I’m not sure there’s a fair number for either side at this point. - landros 2
I think he needs a few games off to reset and refocus. Playing him 25+ minutes while he's clearly not all there is just torture and perpetuating the problem. He may be their best defenseman but right now he's probably their worst. It's time for a reset. |
