The same team did it last year and 2 years before that

The 15-16 team was not the same team and wasn't this far back in late December. But lets look at last year. That team had an incredible run over their last 47 games, but this team is already 4 points behind their pace so even with the same run, they would only finish with 94 points, which might be enough to get in but is no guarantee.

However, last year's team had all of the following:

Provorov playing extremely well
Ghost playing extremely well
AMac playing much better than he has this season
Voracek playing much better than he has this season
Filppula available to take some of the defensive load off of Coots and Patrick and also his presence allowed Giroux to stay on the wing where he excelled.

Again, it's not impossible, but if you think the Flyers making the 2019 playoffs isn't a long shot you just aren't being realistic.

I would add I think the east is much deeper than last year. Theres other teams like the devils in the same boat as us.

I can't see them making the playoffs this year either. It's just too steep a hill to climb between teams above them and any three point games any of those teams may have.

Would heavily consider shopping Simmonds and Gudas at this point leading up to the deadline.

I think wife #2 is a Jersey girl. So that makes sense. I'd be happy to have him back long term. He's perfect for tv.
