Leave him alone. He's growing Colby's replacement eyebrow if he ever needs one. |

Flyers really need to tighten up coverage in front of their net. How many times did it look like the flyers had them contained along the wall only for a pass to get to an open ranger right in front.
Unbelievable by Neuvirth that he didn’t get hurt. That’s some kind of luck.
Team has many problems. Nice to get a W though. |

Hagg had one of those tonight where Neuvirth had to make a save on, wide open Rag and he just stood next to him. He has to slide over to take that man even if that means back door is open.
Other times the wingers are not collapsing or what killed them against Columbus was the wingers taking their time on line changes to get into the play. That has to stop if they plan on making the playoffs. |

Was only able to listen to this one on the radio but sounded like a pretty solid effort. Good to see Simmonds and Neuvy have good games. Nolan coming through in the SO too. 3 outta 4 ain't bad. |

Neuvirth had a good game and can be decent IF he can only stay healthy. Patrick had another decent game, eventually his offense hopefully will come around. Would love to see Patrick start shooting more, although he did have one shot that just missed top corner. Simmonds basically had an empty net goal, but way too many battles on the boards lost and his skating seems to be getting worse if that is possible.
I think if they can stay relatively healthy and make a trade or two that subtracts what they don't really need while adding to improve in other areas they could be a playoff team. |

I think we are a playoff caliber team but might have dug ourselves too big a hole. Atlantic is red hot. 3 point games everywhere. My wish list is a top 4 defenseman young enough to be here for at least 3 more years. I'm okay moving simmer or gudas. I would trade other vet players but dont see the return as being good enough to be worth losing the depth ie trading raffl |

Yup, they are in too deep a hole, behind too many teams and once you factor in 3 point games, I just don’t see them making the playoffs. |

I don't either unfortunately. Not impossible but not likely. I just want to see some young players such as Gostisbehere, Provorov, and Patrick improve on the season as it goes along.

Stupid comment. They havent really played much better. Yes the first 2 games were huge improvements but the last 2 games they have played the same as they did under Hakstol. They were lucky to win that game given the chances they gave to the Rangers. |

You are ignoring that there is still a lot of hockey left and they will be playing a lot of hockey vs teams above them. They control their destiny. Plus teams have played more games than them. They have 1 game in hand on PIT and CBJ, 2 games in hand on BOS and MTL and 3 games in hand on DET |

Nothing is being ignored. 8 points out in the division, 10 in the wild card. That is a lot. The odds are greatly stacked against them.

I'm not ignoring anything, rather I'm looking at cold, hard facts. Since the inception of the shootout, teams that are as far back as the Flyers are, even factoring in a few games in hand, at this point in the season, rarely make the playoffs. Is it impossible? No, of course not, but it is extremely unlikely.

What’s the furthest back in recent years have we been before climbing back into the playoff picture? |

I don't have an exact answer, but I really doubt they ever came back from more than 10 points out after the Christmas break which is pretty much where they are right now. Again, it's not impossible, but it will be very difficult. Barring a bunch of teams ahead of them all collapsing, they will likely need a minimum of 93 points to get in. That means that they would have to go at least 27-15-5 or something similar, from here on out. And that is the best case scenario. The worst case could be needing as much as 97 points to get in which would require them to go 29-13-5 or something similar.
I would love to see it, but realistically, I just don't. |

Solid to good goal tending and 3-1. If they can clean up the HUGE breakdowns it would go a long way...
Not even the first good shot, just no second good shot |

They had diving mid air shots on goal. Full pace, Jump stick between legs pass for a break in on goal. Just some over the top plays when the game was in the line |

Exactly. And I'm not routing for them to miss. I'd much rather they make it. I just want them if they make a move for it to be for more than this season. Cause this season might just be too far gone. |

Not sure if we can get an exact answer but their record at this point in the season last year was 15-13-8. Flyers are 15-16-4 right now which isnt to far off. They need 2 extra wins this season to be on pace to match last season |

Absolutely. IMO, making a short term move to just try and squeeze into the last wildcard spot only to be obliterated by the Lightning in round 1 would be just flat out asinine. You need to be making moves with the upcoming 19-20 season in mind. That means that if you are going to swing a deal for a guy like Stone, you'd better be damned sure that you can re-sign him to a deal you're comfortable with before you make the trade.
It also means you don't overpay for an aging goaltender. Instead you ride out this season with what you have and you address the issue going forward in the offseason. I also think the offseason is where you look to add one more good, experienced Dman and it's also where you need to make a decision on whether you need to be looking for one more good center or can you fill that need in house.
Finally, under no circumstances, do you move your 2019 first unless it's for a young, established, quality NHL player and it is top 3 protected.

To match last season's point total, they would need to go something equivalent to
30-13-4. Are you really suggesting that this team has the ability to go on that kind of run? Please note, that would be a 112 point pace over 82 games. Unless you think the Flyers are one of the top 3-4 teams in the NHL and have just somehow been massively under performing, it's just not realistic.
I salute your optimism, and man, I'd love to be wrong, but the odds are very heavily against the Flyers making the playoffs in 2019. |
