Rutta , yes, but Manning should be kept around because we lack his size and push back on defence especially if one of the current ones goes down with injury. Rutta types can be picked up on the waiver wire. - 67hawks
So can Manning types and a lot cheaper. He's terrible. Its not a coincidence the Hawks are player better since he and Rutta are not in the line-up |

Manning and Rutta can play together - in Rockford permanently. - RickJ
Screw that. I prefer them playing guys with futures. |

I saw that. He might be. I won't deny his talent. I just see the swap for all three players being beneficial as they develop. |

Those 2 are about $5M in cap space that Stanbo could never explain his reasoning behind. |

Not so much about cap space because I don't think Stan is/was going to utilize it anyway. I agree it is a waste of 5M but it basically hits Rocky in the pocketbook. Add another 1M for Kunitz who had been sitting in the press box for a couple of weeks. |

"I like these "new" blackhawks...othere than the puke feast shark game...they have really played well the last week:
1. fewer unforced errors and turnovers
2. better defensive awareness
3. outstanding goal tending; kid was great tonight
4. compete level is sustained for most of the 60
5. pk and pp are showing improvement
what's not to like... [ ]

The Colitis era might have ended and the Colliton era may have begun. - philco28
Am happy to have been wrong about it (lightly fried crow- with some fried and coleslaw ... try it, it's lovely... :D) --- looking like the issue was not pulling the plug on the coaching staff in the off-season and building towards the new coach's preference.

Blackhawk defensemen, Scoring Chances For % (from NaturalStatTrick.com)
Jokiharju 53.10
Keith 49.92
Gustafsson 49.79
Murphy 49.60
Dahlstrom 47.47
Rutta 46.74
Seabrook 43.92
Manning 43.27
Forsling 42.48
Davidson 38.75
Murphy & Dahlstrom have clearly had a positive impact since they've been in the lineup. And the stats say Jokiharju is even better than he's looked. Forsling still has a way to go.
When Joki comes back, I'd put him right back on first pair with Keith. They've been pretty good together this season.

Anybody notice that when the Hawks suck the blog comments approach 900 to a 1000, but when they're on a roll there are only about 300?
Maybe because of the Holidays? |

Maybe this kind of stuff will shock Stan into spending Rocky's money more wisely next summer. Hopefully he learned something from that. |

Why bother? He can be sent to Rockford . Only half of his salary will count against the cap and the Hawks have the cap space for it not be an issue. Why extend the mistake. - Elbows15
This is probably the route they will go down.
That or trade him with lesser retained salary for an AHL plug. |

Unless that d-man was Manning I wouldn’t do that. Kassian seems to thrive in Edmonton but I’m not sure he’d succeed anywhere else. I certainly wouldn’t part with one of the young d-men for Kassian. |

Yeah there’s not really much I’d give up for Kassian. Definitely not draft picks or viable prospects. Maybe AHL depth or another plugger like Martinsen. Would rather stay in house. |

That sucks. I believe that Wise, Highmore and Barratt are similar players -the type we need to develop for the team. Too bad that 2 of them ended up with season ending injuries. Hopefully this will not affect their development. - 67hawks
The potential and skill sets of at least Wise and Barratt are much needed on this team: Wise as a talented middle 6 center who can play in all zones with 2C hype and Barratt as an all-terrain agitator with offensive flair plus ability to play well on any line although not good enough to be a top 6 fixture.
Barratt could be the closest to restoring what Shaw took with him to Montreal. With Wise I fear that he could be really injury prone and end up having a shortened career despite his talent. Reminds me of Jason Allison.
Highmore is somewhat redundant as Kampf and Johnson: a bottom 6 center with an endless motor. In comparison I feel Highmore has the most offensive talent of the 3 although Kampf may be stronger defensively.
Johnson has the most sandpaper but the least skilled. He has an awkward skating stride and the way he constantly has both hands on his stick as he skates, even when he's skating fast/hard, seems to impede him. |
