Is Sam on his own line putting up these numbers?
Or benefiting from playing with Jack & Skinner?

ROR wasn’t on Jack’s line, and was given more defenseive starts than anyone in the league
He’d have been a ppg player on Jack’s wing too... probably even better

- jdfitz77

Wasn’t something like 45 of his points (ROR) last year PP points playing with Jack?

if the playoffs started today, would the Sabres be in them? Yes.
Would the blues be in them? No.

Who Fvcking cares who's fault it is?
Seriously, get vasectomies please.
What a waste of fvcking time.

I wasn't arguing anything! I merely offered a guess on why a lot of people may not like reinhart. That's it! Jesus dude

My bad then
Seemed like u were saying that was why you didn’t like him

I think you’re right that ppl would like him more if he was flashy
I also think that’s kinda dumb in a way
Style is nice
But substance counts first imo

I still think both of these two points can be right:

1.) The Sabres needed a change

2.) ROR is one of the premier 2nd line centers in the league

You're misunderstanding. I'm not dismissing it. Dismissing it would be saying he's definitely not the problem. I'm simply saying you can't say either way, especially because there was already grumbling and signs of trouble before he got there. if they were first place last year and went to the conference final and then all of a sudden the only move is to bring ROR in and they're where they are now you could make more of an argument, but they've been going the wrong way for years.
- Wetbandit1

Ok.
Thanks for hanging in there with me.
I suppose you are right when one considers only the pure facts.
I'm not here to say 100% it is RORs fault.
But one certainly must raise an eyebrow to 3 of 3 teams going through same exact thing.
Can one prove it 100%?
Should one ignore tv100%.?
Should one be suspicious at worst?
Can one draw certain conclusions?

I don't think Ive ever said anything about sam either way, he is what he is. until such time as his role or cap hit changes to a point where it's too much, he's totally fine (just like i said in that post)

I think most fans can agree to that but it's different when you're just watching over a full season. At the end of it, when you're looking back, those plays will stick with you more than the subtle stuff. Doesn't actually make it worth more/less, its just what the brain remembers, probably cause its more interesting.

Im tentatively calling this mittelstadt syndrome.

Thanks Boss!

I've made the similar argument about a guy like Mitch Marner. Not trying to discredit his play but historically, he's been less the driver and more the passenger on the leafs. His step forward is in part development related, but a lot of it has to do with a guy named John Tavares. Problem is there's no arguing against a good ol ontario boy who's fun to watch. Soon as he makes a nice move to the middle, the fans will eat you alive.

I agree, flashy in any sport generally equates to increased popularity.

That's why jack eichel is gonna an all time buffalo guy.

Flashy and productive.
Full entertainment value.

So change the subject.

Vasectomy, got one...they disclosed to me that it was possible to have low level pain from the time of the operation foawzrd...downplayed it like it was nothing...may have to take Tylenol occasionally.

I'd like to be able to kick Dr Stop in his nuts quite hard in the AM, at Noon, and before bed every goddamn day for life, and then his son's until the day I die.. as well ad put his wife's tits in a vice , squeezed so hard it made his nipples bleed!
MFer!

I take your point, some players are definitely more exciting than others with the same amount of points. Guys +/- 3 points of Reinhart (I'm guessing 'prod' on ESPN means p/60, NHL.com has taken a poop and refuses to display any results, and the stat sites are slow and slow to update) that produce less are Lindholm(more points), Marchand(equal), Barkov(less), Larkin, Horvat, ROR, Toews, Hoffman, RNH, Seguin, Nyqvist. At what point does it not matter? What's more entertaining? A flashy goal and a win? Or a solid assist and a win? I don't really care if all the goals the Sabres score are own goals on the other team, as long as they win. And the opposite is also true; a bunch of flashy plays in a loss is still a loss, and for a team with expectations that's not good enough. Winning is all that matters and, generally, players with points help you win.

ROR is one of the best complementary players in the league but he wants to be THE GUY. Everyone around the team always talks about what a great leader he is but it never manifests itself.

23pts were on the PP (Out of 61pts)
So half what you thought
This is the misconception ppl get though when Sbroads blasts it over & over

Now this year...
when his 5v5 points are much better,
bc he’s not being used so insanely defensively,
his numbers are much better 5v5

Sbroads won’t really admit it though
He’ll say “sure”
But the reframe it to say,
“but he’s doing worse lately”

Here’s the facts

Points per game
This year- 1.0
Last year- .75

5v5 goals
This year- .31
Last year- .11

5v5 points
This year- .66
Last year- .58

Why are his numbers up all across the board?
It’s not rocket science
It’s bc they aren’t making him take an obscene amount of his teams defensive zone draws & giving him more offensive opportunity

Bottom line...
he’s a really good player who is more than capable putting up numbers that deserve 7.5mil
IF
he’s used correctly

All fair points
I’d agree

I usually end up defending Sam bc the hate on him is way too strong from some
However...
if he gets 8mil a year, i will not be happy

I think the fundamental problem is people need someone to blame/something to point to when things go wrong, and the same for when things are going right, so they look for the easiest reason. And it disturbs people when there is no easy explanation.

I've just made peace with the fact that there's not always a satisfactory answer to everything. Sometimes things are just vague and undefinable.

It really shouldn't ever, but it would matter in terms of decision making. You get caught up reliving the highlights meanwhile all the data says a guy who's less flashy but also making more plays, less money is the guy to keep.

But again, thats more for the people in charge, most fans see what they want to see (im guilty of it too) and so at least to me anyways, its no surprise that a certain percentage of fans sour on him. Strictly from a fan-cheering perspective, he brings very little to the table. Which is of course totally fine because as you said its all about the wins..but when the team doesn't win, people naturally look for someone to blame, boring 2nd overall pick (especially relative to exciting 2nd overall pick) is an easy target.
