I think we should’ve gotten the 1st and a better prospect/young player than Thompson
Especially if we were taking back the salary of Sobotka & Berglund

- jdfitz77

I think we should have also.

But.. the fact that the return was what is was is proof enough to me that GMJB really wanted RoR to be moved and he got us the best deal he could.

It’s not “sexy” but it’s not disappointing coming from a last place finish to where they are now, at least not in my eyes.
- Stripes77

Being where we re now is bc of:
Goaltending, Dahlin & Skinner
NOT
the ROR trade

Stop me if you've heard this, but....

I think that's what the 1st is thought to be.

That pick is looking to be a top 10 pick in the 2020 draft. That is a very valuable piece and the one that no one seems to add into the equation.

- RhinoFan

Well at the time of the trade,
we thought it would be a pick in the 20s
Obviously it’s looking a lot better now
But we don’t know if StL will bounce back next year
And we also don’t know how the player we choose will work out

Currently,
the 1st is looking like the best asset we got back
No arguments there
But I’m not ready to say it’ll be a “core” player either
That’s still tbd

Also you could easily make the argument that Skinner isn’t a Sabre if ROR and his contract are still here.

I guess so
Just tough to watch ROR killing it whil we struggle with the secondary scoring that the StL guys were supposed to solve, or at least be a big help with

HAHAHA are you kidding me.... How can you say that... IT WAS completly obvious Jack and Ryan hated each other last year. and we now all these guys saying how everyone is on the same page in the locker room what other proof do you need other than your ears and eyes??

And the "winning fixes everything" excuse can't be used.

The attitude of the players was worlds different than last year before one game was played

Would you prefer to have RoR killing it and have the team play like st louis?

ROR has more than double the points of Berglund, Sobotka & Thompson... COMBINED
That’s fact
Locker room stuff is conjecture
None of us know if it was a big deal or not
Another fact is that they both denied it
And Jack even said they hammed it up on purpose to mess with the media rumors that they weren’t getting along

I can just reverse it on you too
You can’t prove what i said isn’t true

Goaltending is much better... fact
Skinner is killing it... fact
Dahlin is awesome... fact

There’s a lot to back up my opinion

Botts wouldn’t make a no brainer trade if ROR was still here?
Would Botts forget about using common sense?
I’m reasonably sure he’d have moved out Cap to make it work

My mid-first and Ho-Sang proposal doesn’t seem so crazy now considering it basically is Thompson + mid first

Three team in a row have had locker room issues after RoR has gone there.

Two of them made huge leaps after he was moved.

This is not conjecture

But is it really all that crazy that i wanted a better return & don’t like the pieces we got?

It would have worked for this year but not when one of the top 5 on 5 scorers become a Free Agent and already having $7.5 million tied up in 1 player.

Skinner would turn into a complete rental player.

Why would Botterill do that if he’s trying to build long term knowing he wouldn’t be able to keep him after this season?

He made the trade after ROR was moved knowing he had the cap space available to sign Skinner if it worked out.

There was a legit fight on the ice in practice between teammates.

If that doesn’t constitute a locker room issue I don’t know what does.
