But they make $8.5 million combined and ROR makes $7.5 alone.

I don’t understand how you refuse to see the bigger picture.

pp specialist in the sense that his "60 point guy" title was largely due to PP usage with a guy named Jack.
- Sabresfan-365

He’s scoring plenty of points without Jack this year... right?

He was the 1 piece traded away that i wished we’d kept
And the 1st for Lehner

- jdfitz77

Well, in terms of the Lehner thing, if we didn't have him, there's a good chance we don't end up with Dahlin.

Everything happens for a reason, and sometimes it's hard to see that.

I guess while there are things that need to be corrected on the current team, I don't see why everyone is freaking out and acting like the sky is falling all of a sudden.

The games are fun to watch again. Just try and enjoy the ride, at least for a bit.

He’s not exactly lighting it up. He’s been hurt a lot.

The 1st for Lehner hurts for sure.

GMTM screwed up badly.

- Stripes77

Not lighting it up,
but having a pretty good season when healthy
Good young player

I heard GMTM got a “raw deal” though?

Getting rid of a $7.5 million cap hit for one player and using it to complete the entire roster.

It’s not done but you have way more options when you don’t have that cap hit for one player you don’t see fitting in.

it's all relative to expectations. Kane/ROR are gone so I'll leave them out of it but I didn't like either player. He (most people) have come around to Risto, largely cause the expectations have changed.

I think the issue with Sam, beyond just him being a 2nd overall pick, is that he's rather uninspiring and kinda boring from a purely entertainment standpoint. Even when he's on, dude looks like hes doing nothing, which is fine but it makes him much harder to like as a fan than say Mittelstadt.

If I said that, but don't think I did........I was WAY wrong.

He swung, he missed, he gone.

Edit: The only thing I don't like that worked against him was how he was hired as guy with potential and would be mentored. Then his mentor quit.

Bottom line: Dude wasn't ready.

Good players play together
Are we to penalize Bergeron for playing with Pasternak? MacKinnon for having Rantanen on his wing? Etc, etc, etc

ROR is a really good player
Maybe the locker room stuff is legit ?
I think it’s stuff that goes on when there’s a lot of losing, that fixes itself when the team is winning, and was very overblown...
like he & Jack both said
Jack even said they hammed it up to mess with the media as a joke

Except you hated him from day 1. It’s ok. I’ve been there.

You can’t hide that from me. You didn’t like the trade and you’ve passed on 0 opportunities to bash Thompson, Sobotka, and Berglund.

We get it.

- sbroads24

Broads- you were pretty much right about gmtm.

I hated and disagreed with all your bashing.

You were %110 right though

That’s the one thing that makes sense about moving him
However,
it doesn’t make the mediocre return we got any better

Berglund is gone, thankfully

Do u want Sobotka here long term?
I don’t think anyone does

And while Thompson has shown flashes in a couple games, it’s still way up in the or what he will or won’t develop into
I’m not a fan
Would love to be proven wrong though

Now of we’d have gotten back a “core” player... u wouldn’t be hearing this argument from me

All i wanted was a good return if we moved him
I think my reasoning for not being happy with it so far is fair

There were 2 posters who came out very vocally about how the GMTM firing was unfair

The Sabres are also getting anothe Colin White this year or next as well. Can't call an unfinished trade good or bad yet.

I think the benefit is more that the move:

1) Allowed this to be Jack's team.
2) He was a good player but not at the contract especially if the locker room stuff was true.

Aside from the first rounder, this trade SEEMS less about what we got and more about what we got rid of.

Just compare Jack's pressers after a loss to ROR's. Betting you could almost word for word recite what he says in St. Louis without seeing one interview. Stuff like that carries over. Jack challenges the team to perform better. Granted, that means nothing if one doesn't have the skill to back it up. But it's way different.

Shouldn't anyone who hated the trade feel a little better about it today?

It was a great trade when it was made. With STL stinking and now with Berglund's contract gone, it's an absolute steal.

- Lunaion

%100 agree

St. Louis fans post on the Sabres page about how we lost the trade. How great ror is.....

I remember when Winnipeg fans stopped bye and told us what a sack of poop ek9 was.

They love him in st. Louis. They have no idea
