Not true
We could’ve got Skinner & ROR going forward, and then some

And sure...
playing with Tarasenko absolutely helps
A hell of a lot more than playing with Pouliot or Girgs

But it’s more how StL is using him

It’s not surprising that he’s doing much better offensively now that he isn’t being used so defensively
Well, maybe to Sbroads it is

- jdfitz77

But he wouldn't be in that kind of position here. He would always be second fiddle offensively to Eichel. So stop beating the dead horse.

And I’ll bet my house he doesn’t end up near 30 goals.

He’s already dropped dramatically from being over a PPG the first 20 to 9 in his last 15

- sbroads24

The 19 game or so goal drought is imminent I'm sure.

It comes down to three things:

1. Thompson
2. Draft pick (lottery ticket)
3. Getting out from under the contract of a player who isn't getting any faster

Berglund had somewhat nullified #3

- Slump Buster

It is what it is at this point
Would be a lot easier to take if Mitts was doing better & the StL guys were actually providing the depth scoring we thought they would

Just hasn’t really worked out... yet

All fair points
Just wish we got a better return for him
Bc he’s clearly a really good player
So far,
what we got back has been very uninspiring
Hopefully I’m wrong about Tage & he develops into a top6 scorer for us
We could use it

- jdfitz77

I think the realistic time table was to compete for a playoff spot next season

Dahlin and Skinner moved it up 12 months

as a player I saw a two-way, 60-point player who could anchor the pk and also had some pretty good chemistry with skunk
- Michael Pachla

Very fair opinion

Don’t people remember that secondary scoring was a huge issue last year too?

Do people forget O’Reilly couldn’t score 5 on 5?

He also has 1 goal in his last 11 games. He’s going right back to the 50-60 point second line center he’s always been

It’s totally a coincidence that the two people most opposed to the O’Reilly trade are also the two that don’t like Thompson and how he has turned it around since being awful the first 10-15 games. Total coincidence

Since the Philly game where he starred to turn it around he has

4th on the team in shots per 60
3rd in shot attempts per 60
8th in high danger chances per 60
4th in total shots
8th in total high danger chances for

Hes playing with two scrubs

Am I one of the people? I was fine with the trade the day it happened. I thought Berglund would be much better, but it's not Botterill's fault the dude is a flake. Thompson isn't fully developed yet. I would have liked one solid offensive piece Like I said, I wanted Domi, but i wasn't complaining the day of the trade - or since.

ROR is gone and he's never coming back

Thompson scored four goals in a span of six games...none in his first 13 games (1 assist) and none in his last nine (zero points)...and he hasn't been playing fourth-line minutes during those slumps...

just saying

We had that guy. And finished in the bottom of the league. So, thanks, but no thanks.
- HonkFortheGoose

Ppl keep trying to connect those dots
It was RORs fault...
not Lehner, a bad defense & a bunch of scrub forwards

The reason we are better isn’t bc of good goaltending, Dahlin & Skinner...
it’s bc ROR is gone

Come on now

Thompson is no all-star, but he’s been quite adequate at getting shots on net for a guy paying with Sobotka and other scrubs.

You said last night you’d send him down again?

He had his shot with Mitts as well
Jack can only have 2 wingers
If only we had another talented center for him to play with.....

Yeah, and i still think Nylander had the better preseason. It's my unsubstantiated opinion that they had decided before the preseason that they were going to keep Thompson, not Nylander. Let's face it, if Nylander were here instead of Thompson, and he had those stats, people would be merciless

I won't say that those other things aren't part of it as well. But there's something about this group that's so different. I don't know that it would be that way if ROR was still here. And at the end of the day, I take what we have now over what we had before.

25ish and 70ish points is pretty good too
Could be more than Berglund, Sobotka & Thompson... COMBINED
Right now, he has DOUBLE their points

Great trade my a$$

I saw a power play specialist and a bottom third PK. Our PK was way better this year without him

He just wasn't worth his contract and was only going to get worse, not better.

Yeah, that’s likely
But it still doesn’t diminish what a good player it is
His numbers now are just showing what other ppl couldn’t see
